An electrical socket contact (1) includes an elongated sleeve (30) having an upper large hollow portion (32) for receiving a clip (10) therein and a lower small pin portion (34) for reception in a hole of a board on which a PGA insulative socket housing is mounted. The clip (10) comprises at the top a ring (12) from which a pair of opposite beams (16) extend downwardly. The beams (16) converge approximately in the midst for engagement with a male pin received within the socket contact (1). A bight portion (20) connectively intermediates between the distal ends of the beams (16) to serve to stabilize the beams (16) and allow the beams (16) to move as a unit. At the top, the ring (12) retains the clip within the sleeve (30) with an interference fit and at the bottom, the bight portion (20) associated with the distal ends of the beams (16) freely move in all directions to accommodate any off-center of the male pine due to angularity or position.

PGA socket contact

An extractor (50) comprises a table-like main body (52) having a plate (54) and four legs (56) extending downward from the four corners of the plate (54), respectively. Disposed between every two adjacent legs (56) is a wall (58) extending downward from an edge of the plate (54). A lengthwise and horizontal slot (68) is formed along each wall (58). A hole (72) is positioned at the center of the plate (54). An actuator (75) includes a bar (76) axially moveable within the hole (72). A knob (80) is positioned at the top of the bar (76) and above the plate (54). An actuating block (78) is positioned at the bottom of the bar (76) and below the plate (54). The slot (68) can retain a cover (24) of an IC socket assembly (20) in the main body (52) and the actuator (75) can release the cover (24) of the socket assembly (20) from the main body (52).

Extractor for IC socket assembly

A chip carrier socket (2) for use with an integrated circuit chip carrier (80). The chip carrier (80) has spaced apart contact leads (82) which extend from respective side walls of the chip carrier (80). The socket (2) has a recess (20) for reception of the chip carrier (80) therein. Contact receiving slots (34) are positioned in surrounding relationship to the recess (20) and have contacts (5) disposed therein. Each contact (5) has a generally S-shaped contacting section (52) which cooperates with the corresponding lead (82) of the chip carrier (80), and a mounting section (54) which cooperates with a circuit board on which the socket is seated. A retention section (62) extends upward from an outer end of the mounting section (54) for fastening the contacting section (52) to the socket (2). A reference section (66) laterally extends outward from the lower portion of the retention section (62) to the outside for functioning as a stopper for positioning of the contact or as a testing portion for contacting a probe which is used to collect the data for checking the status of the contact (5).
