Polyetherpolyols containing residues of catalysts of the double metal cyanide complex class are treated with a strong base and ion exchanged or neutralized and filtered to provide a stable polyol with reduced tendency to form allophanates with diisocyanates. Further, the addition of ethylene oxide to the polyol while in contact with the strong base serves to end cap the polyol to provide it with primary hydroxyl groups.

Method for treating polypropylene ether and poly-1,2-butylene ether

A laminated product such as a tire is cast from chemically extending liquids which form a laminated solid in a mold. The mold cavity is closed in preparation for use except for casting fluid inlet ports and exhaust vents. The mold cavity defines the shape of the product to be cast. Two or more chemically extendable liquids are injected into the mold without mixing through the inlet ports. Each liquid is injected through a different port. After injection, the liquids are arranged in alternate circumferential segments within the annular space. At least one of the inner and outer surfaces which define the mold cavity is then rotated about the common axis to impart a spiral configuration to each of the injected liquids. The liqiuds are then allowed to chemically extend to solids and form a laminated product such as a tire. The products, when they comprise alternate layers of high and low elastic modulus materials, have better resistance to flex cracking than non-layered materials of similar composition having similar average stiffness.

Apparatus for making cast annular laminates

A thermoset, segmented and elastomeric polypropylene ether urethane is made by reacting together tolylene diisocyanate, ethylene glycol and a polypropylene ether triol having an average molecular weight of from 7,000 to 14,000, in certain ratios. The resulting polyurethane exhibits a temperature retraction TR-10 of less than about -35.degree. C. and a Goodyear-Healy rebound of greater than about 55%.

Thermoset polyurethane prepared from a polypropylene ether triol

A thermoplastic, linear and segmented poly-1,2-propylene ether urethane having a Tg of below about -30.degree. C. for the poly-1,2-propylene ether segments is made by reacting poly-1,2-propylene glycol having a high molecular weight; ethylene glycol, 2,3-butane diol or neopentyl glycol or mixture thereof; and 2,4-tolylene diisocyanate containing from about 55 to 100% by weight of the 2,4-isomer with the balance being the 2,6-isomer.

Cast annular laminates and method and apparatus for making same

Hydroxy terminated polyethers are obtained by reacting (1) epoxide and oxetane monomers with (2) a telogen at least partially soluble with the monomers, reactive with said monomers and being selected from the group consisting of phenols (3) in admixture therewith as catalysts certain double metal cyanide complexes which preferably had been treated with organic materials like alcohols, ethers, esters and so forth. A feature of the process of the present invention is the preparation of high molecular weight diols, triols, etc. without appreciable end group unsaturation, and the use of certain solvents with particular monomers and catalysts to also achieve these results. The products of the present process are useful as nonionic surface active agents, as lubricants and coolants, as textile sizes, as films for packaging and in the preparation of solid or flexible polyurethanes by reaction with polyisocyanates.
