A depth sensing system including an electronic display, a light source, an array of optical sensing elements, and a depth map generator. The light source is configured to transmit periodic bursts of light in a field of view (FOV) of the depth sensing system. The array of optical sensing elements is disposed behind the electronic display and configured to detect light reflected from one or more objects in the FOV of the depth sensing system, where the reflected light is partially occluded by the electronic display. The depth map generator is configured to receive sensor data based on the detected light form the array of optical sensing elements and determine depth information about the one or more objects by applying one or more neural network models to the received sensor data.

Through-display time-of-flight (ToF) sensor

A media capture device (MCD) that provides a multi-sensor, free flight camera platform with advanced learning technology to replicate the desires and skills of the purchaser/owner is provided. Advanced algorithms may uniquely enable many functions for autonomous and revolutionary photography. The device may learn about the user, the environment, and/or how to optimize a photographic experience so that compelling events may be captured and composed into efficient and emotional sharing. The device may capture better photos and videos as perceived by one's social circle of friends, and/or may greatly simplify the process of using a camera to the ultimate convenience of fill autonomous operation.

Autonomous media capturing

A device includes a display and a first light source configured to emit light, wherein the first light source is proximate to the display. The device further includes a first camera disposed behind the display, wherein the first camera is configured to detect reflections of the light emitted by the first light source. The first camera is further configured to capture a first image based at least in part on the reflections, wherein the reflections are partially occluded by the display. The device also includes a second camera proximate to the display, wherein the second camera is configured to capture a second image. In addition, the device includes a depth map generator configured to generate depth information about one or more objects in a field-of-view (FOV) of the first and second cameras based at least in part on the first and second images.

An optical imaging device for imaging a biometric input object is provided. The optical imaging device includes an optical sensor having an array of sensing elements. The optical sensor is configured to first read a first subset of sensing elements in the array of sensing elements; analyze the first read of the first subset of sensing elements to determine an ambient light condition; first alter an operating point of the optical imaging device based on the ambient light condition; and image the input object.

A system and method for an electronic device for imaging a biometric object having structural features of interest is disclosed. The electronic device includes a display including rows of pixel elements, the rows of pixel elements being parallel a first primary direction along a first axis and an optical sensor mounted underneath the display, the optical sensor being parallel to a second primary direction along a second axis. The second axis is rotated at an angle relative the first axis to adjust a moir&#xe9; pattern outside of a frequency range of the features of interest.

Methods and systems for integrating image sensor structures with collimator filters, including manufacturing methods and associated structures for forming collimator filters at the wafer level for integration with image sensor semiconductor wafers. Methods of making an optical biometric sensor include forming a collimator filter layer on an image sensor wafer, wherein a plurality of light collimating apertures in the collimator filter layer are aligned with a plurality of light sensing elements in the image sensor wafer, and after forming the collimator filter layer on the image sensor wafer, singulating the image sensor wafer into a plurality of individual optical sensors.

An optical biometric sensor includes an array of light sensing elements, an array of diverging optical elements, and an array of apertures disposed between the array of light sensing elements and the array of diverging optical elements. Light incident on the diverging optical elements within a limited acceptance angle passes through the apertures and towards the light sensing elements and light incident on the diverging optical elements outside of the limited acceptance angle diverges away from the apertures.

An electronic device may have a camera module. The camera module may include a camera sensor capable of capturing foveated images. The camera sensor may be hardwired to capture foveated images with fixed regions of different quality levels or may be dynamically-reconfigurable to capture foveated images with selected regions of different quality levels. As one example, the camera module may be hardwired to capture a center region of an image at full resolution and peripheral regions at reduced resolutions, so that a user can merely center objects of interest in the image to capture a foveated image. As another example, the camera module may analyze previous images to identify objects of interest and may then reconfigure itself to capture the identified objects of interest at a high quality level, while capturing other regions at reduced quality levels.

An image processing circuit compares a pixel value to a threshold value and modifies the pixel value if the pixel value has a predetermined relationship to the threshold value. Alternatively, the image processing circuit generates a random number and combines the random number with a pixel value. Such image processing circuits can be used to remove artifacts such as contour artifacts from a decoded electronic image or a sequence of decoded video frames.
