An apparatus for adjusting the body temperature of a patient comprises an enclosure defining an interior space for receiving at least a portion of a patient's body therein. The enclosure is adapted for substantially sealingly enclosing the portion of the patient's body within the interior space with the enclosure. Heat transfer liquid may then be circulated through the interior space of the enclosure via an inlet and an outlet for flow over the patient's body in direct liquid contact therewith to promote heat transfer between the patient's body and said heat transfer liquid. The heat transfer liquid may be either warmer or cooler than the patient's body temperature, to either warm or cool the portion. Controlled cooling may be employed to induce therapeutic hypothermia, while controlled warming may be employed to counteract unintended hypothermia. The apparatus further comprises a portable control unit that includes a liquid delivery system, a power source, a control system and a user interface for powering and controlling the liquid delivery system.

Apparatus for altering the body temperature of a patient

Apparatus providing instructional assistance to a student playing a stringed musical instrument. The apparatus instructs the student of proper finger placement on the instrument's strings and includes a finger placement sensor for identifying which strings are in contact with a fingerboard and the locations at which such strings are in contact with the fingerboard relative to the length of the fingerboard. The finger placement sensor generates electrical position signals representative of the identified strings and locations. A signal processing circuit electrically connected to the finger placement sensor receives and processes the position signals. The apparatus also includes an indicator electrically connected to the signal processing circuit for receiving the processed position signals and providing an indication to the student of which strings are in contact with the fingerboard and the location at which such strings are in contact with the fingerboard relative to the length of the fingerboard. A method of instructing a student in playing a stringed musical instrument includes displaying a graphical representation of the fingerboard and strings and outputting an audio representation to the student based on the position signals.

Finger placement sensor for stringed instruments

An apparatus of the present invention induces hypothermia in a patient and effects cardio-pulmonary resuscitation on the patient. The apparatus including a gurney for supporting and facilitating transport of the patient, the gurney having at least a portion thereof in fluid communication with a coolant source, and a body suit having a thoracic cuff and an abdominal cuff. The thoracic and abdominal cuffs are sequentially inflatable and deflatable for sequentially compressing and releasing the thoracic and abdominal region of the patient to induce inhalation and exhalation in the lungs and circulation of the blood supply in the patient. The apparatus further including a head cooling device which includes a helmet adapted to be mounted on the head of the patient and a mask in fluid communication with a cooled oxygen source for supplying cooled oxygen to the lungs of the patient. The helmet of the head cooling device having an outer shell and a bladder mounted on the outer shell in fluid communication with the coolant source for extracranial cooling of the brain.
