An extreme emergency braking system including at least two brake modules, a pedal feel emulator in communication with at least one of the brake modules by way of a first communication line, an electric park brake switch assembly in communication with the brake modules by at least a second communication line, and an electric circuit adapted to supply at least a first voltage to a first one of the brake modules and a second voltage to a second one of the brake modules, the supplied voltages being indicative of a state of the switch assembly, wherein the first communication line is independent of the second communication line.

Extreme emergency braking systems for brake-by-wire brake systems

A system including a vehicle body having a plurality of wheels and a brake subsystem associated with each wheel. The system further includes a plurality of remote controllers, wherein each remote controller is associated with one of the brake subsystem and is configured to calculate basic braking functions for the associated brake subsystem and for each of the other brake subsystems. The remote controllers are operatively coupled together. The system further includes a central controller operatively coupled to each remote controller, wherein each remote controller has about the same or less processing capability than the central controller.

Fail-silent node architecture

A distributed architecture system including a plurality of nodes operatively coupled together by a bus. Each node includes a main controller configured to provide data to the bus and to an actuator, and a supervisory controller configured to provide data to the bus and to the actuator. Each node is configured such that during normal operations the main controller provides data to the actuator that controls the actuator and the supervisory controller generally does not provide data to the actuator that controls the actuator. Each node is configured such that if it is determined that the main controller is providing improper data, the supervisory controller provides data to the actuator that controls the actuator and the main controller does not provide data to the actuator that controls the actuator.

Fault-tolerant node architecture for distributed systems

Method for operating a delta wound three-phase permanent magnet brushless motor. A transition speed is determined in a quadrant of a speed versus torque curve above which speed continues to increase while current/torque decreases wherein actual phase current can be controlled in a current control modification manner which reduces requested phase current. The modification manner is determined for a quadrant, wherein a controller can use the modification manner to reduce the requested phase current to control the actual phase current when the speed is above the transition speed. The motor is controlled in a quadrant wherein, when the motor has a speed above the transition speed, the controller reduces the requested phase current in the modification manner and the controller supplies the actual phase current to the motor using the reduced requested phase current and using measured phase current of the motor derived from using a single current sense resistor.

A motor system utilizes a single feedback output to determine various fault states for a 3-phase motor in a non-operational condition. The same single feedback output may be used to determine the applied phase voltage for a 3-phase motor in an operational condition.

Three phase motor diagnostics and phase voltage feedback utilizing a single A/D input

A method of initializing a brake-by-wire system is provided. The method includes connecting multiple braking actuators to a controller to allow for communication between the braking actuators and the controller. The braking actuators are associated with one or more wheels of a vehicle. Subsequent to connecting the multiple braking actuators to a controller, the method includes dynamically assigning a primary identifier to the braking actuators using the controller.

Dynamic identification of brake-by-wire components

A method produces PWM voltage waveforms in a PWM motor controller of a three phase PM DC brushless motor, wherein the motor controller has first, second and third half H-bridge transistor pairs to generate the voltage waveforms to electronically commutate the motor. The first transistor pair is always assigned to the first phase for every commutation state requiring a voltage waveform from the first transistor pair. The second and third transistor pair are similarly assigned. The first method also includes always starting a voltage waveform generated by the first transistor pair substantially at the beginning of the PWM period when a commutation state requires a voltage waveform from the first transistor pair but delaying starting a voltage waveform generated by the second transistor pair by substantially &#x2153; of the PWM period and delaying starting a voltage waveform generated by the third transistor pair by substantially &#x2154; of the PWM period.

Method for producing voltage waveforms in a PWM motor controller of a PM DC brushless motor

An apparatus () is set forth for measuring a return signal of a magnetostrictive sensor () that detects a force, torque, or pressure. The return signal includes noise, a DC resistance (), an AC resistance and an inductance and the inductance is shifted ninety degrees from the AC resistance. The apparatus () includes a sensor filter () to remove the noise from the return signal. A sensor filter () shifts the return signal and more specifically, the inductance by an additional angle and the sum of the additional angle and the ninety degrees phase shift is defined as the final detection angle. To detect the inductance at the final detection angle, a wave filter () and a reference filter () shifts a reference signal by the final detection angle to trigger a first demodulator () to detect the inductance at the final detection angle. The inductance detected by the first demodulator () varies due to temperature. To remove the temperature from the measured inductance, the apparatus includes a DC detection circuit () to detect the DC resistance which is proportional to the temperature across the sensor (). The DC resistance and the measure inductance are inserted into a correction equation to produce a corrected inductance which is independent of temperature. Instead of inductance, an AC resistance may be used in the equation.

Robust detection of strain with temperature correction

An electrical system comprised of at least two control modules as well as at least one power supply module. The present invention improves functional reliability of electrical systems by configuring a power supply module as a smart device and connecting it to at least one of the control modules for the purpose of data exchange and, in case of a malfunction, transforming the control module(s) to one of a stand-alone operating mode and a cut-off state.

A controller area network employs a CAN bus for facilitating CAN communications among a plurality of communication controllers switched to an active state. The controller area network further employs a CAN wake-up controller for switching one or more communication controllers to the active state in response to an application of a non-interfering communication biasing signal to said CAN bus. Upon a termination of the application of a non-interfering communication biasing signal to said CAN bus, the CAN wake-up controller switches the communication controller(s) to an inactive state for impeding CAN communications by communication controller(s) via the CAN bus.

A control system for operating a device. The control system comprises a plurality of command elements generating command signals and a control element having a plurality of control modes. Each control mode includes a transfer function output effective to operate the device in a predetermined manner and is selectable in accordance with the status of at least one of the command signals. The transfer function output of a nonselected control mode is made to substantially track the transfer function output of a selected control mode such that the transfer function output of the nonselected control mode is substantially similar in magnitude to the transfer function output of the selected mode when the control element selects the nonselected mode. A method employs the system.

Closed-loop control system

A method for detecting a change in permeability of a magnetostrictive object due to a change in strain. At least one first coil and at least one second coil are obtained and positioned such that magnetic flux lines induced by an electric current in the first coil(s) pass through at least one portion of the object in a direction substantially parallel to the strain direction, such that magnetic flux lines induced by an electric current in the second coil(s) pass through at least one portion of the object in a direction substantially parallel to the strain direction, and such that any electromagnetic interference sensed by the first coil(s) is sensed oppositely by the second coil(s). The total inductance of the positioned first and second coil(s) is measured over time. A change in permeability of the object is detected from a change in the measured total inductance over time.
