A system and method for facilitating the distribution of a digital data file representing an original document by providing a coded cover sheet containing distribution processing instructions in the form of a paper UI. The code indicating the presence of the paper UI. The system includes an optical sensor which detects the code and signals a control processor to process the paper UI instructions.

Method and apparatus for automatically detecting a paper user interface

A document processing control system with a graphical user interface having a display is provided. The document processing system further includes a memory manager for determining whether the information of the information set is of a first type or a second type. The memory manager uses a first information processing mode to control display of the information when the information is of the first type and a second information processing mode to control display of the information when the information is of the second type.

Message management system for a user interface of a multifunctional printing system

A programmable message storage system for a multifunctional printing system is provided. The programmable message storage system includes a configurable database for listing a plurality of message identifiers, the plurality of message identifiers corresponding respectively with the plurality of messages. The plurality of code sets corresponds respectively with the plurality of message identifiers, and each code set controls a manner in which a corresponding message is displayed on the display screen. In practice, at least one of the plurality of code sets is user programmable so that, in response to user input, the at least one of the plurality of code sets is reconfigured in the database for changing the manner in which the message corresponding with the at least one of the plurality of codes sets is displayed as a function of said reconfiguring.

A document scanner, including a document input tray for holding a compilation of documents in a predetermined sequence; a document output tray for receiving documents; an imaging station for scanning each one of said compilation of documents at predefined scanning rate; an imaging transport system for moving the documents received from said document input tray through said imaging station at a first velocity; an inverter, spaced a predetermined distance from said imaging transport system for moving selected documents of said compilation of documents back to said imaging transport system, said inverter having one mode of operation for moving selected documents to said imaging transport system so that a second side of said selected documents is scanned by said imaging station, said inverter having second mode of operation for moving selected documents to said imaging transport system so that said first side of said selected documents are rescanned by said imaging station. There is also provided a processor, in communication with said imaging station and said transport system, for processing image data at a predetermined data rate, said processor includes means for sensing a data rate fault, and means for generating an error signal in response to said data fault to enable said second mode of said inverter, wherein said second mode of operation said imaging transport system moves at a second velocity which is less than said first velocity.

There is provided a system for a multifunctional printing system which controls a manner in which status message sets are displayed on a display screen of a corresponding user interface. As contemplated, a first service attribute designating set of information is displayed on the display screen at a first time and a second service attribute designating set of information is displayed on the display screen at a second time, with the second time being subsequent to the first time. In practice, a message manager determines whether a replacement operation has occurred with respect to the user interface such that a substantial portion of the first service attribute designating information set has been replaced visually by the second attribute designating information set. In response to determining that a replacement operation has occurred, at least a portion of a status message set currently being displayed is replaced with at least a portion of another status message set.

A system or method displays an appropriate user interface for a multi-function machine. A controller changes displayed contents of a user interface to display a functional screen corresponding to a copy-function when a document handler sensor senses a document placed in a document handler and changes the displayed contents of the user interface to display a functional screen corresponding to a facsimile-function when a telephone number sensor circuit senses a telephone being inputted through a ten-key pad. The controller also changes the display of the user interface to display a functional screen corresponding to a copy-function when a platen cover sensor senses a lifting of a platen cover. Lastly, the controller changes the display of the user interface to display a function screen corresponding to a print-function when a portable memory drive sensor senses an insertion of a portable memory device into a portable memory drive.

Auto-function switching process for a multi-functional machine

In an image input scanner, image information is acquired by sensing light from an image at an array of photosites arranged across a path of relative movement of the array and the image. To obtain resolution k, given a nominal slow scan velocity v for the relative movement between the array and the image, slow scan velocity is varied continuously over a range of 1/2 v to v. In combination, with variation of slow scan velocity over the range of 1/2 v to v, a limited scan line throw away scheme is matched to the range of velocity, where the ratio of lines kept to lines discarded in a group of lines is defined by the ratio 1:N where for every N lines, a pattern is repeated which passes 1 line of N lines, where N is a positive integer.
