A flash assembly which uses an elongated arc discharge flash tube positioned within a reflector. A trigger bar member fits within a slot of the reflector and is located adjacent the tube. The reflector, trigger bar, and the contacts which electrically connect the electrodes projecting from the tube to a suitable power source are mounted within an insulative base. The invention is particularly suited for use within a camera assembly.

A multiflash system including an arc discharge flashlamp having an elongated tubular envelope and containing three electrodes. A direct current voltage source comprising a large storage bank with positive and negative terminals is connected across two of the electrodes, and a storage capacitor is connected between the third electrode and the negative terminal of the source. The capacitor-connected electrode defines a first arc path with the electrode connected to the positive terminal of the source and a second arc path with the electrode connected to the negative terminal of the source. Trigger pulses are applied to the lamp so as to alternately energize the first and second arc paths, the storage capacitor being charged when the first arc path is energized to flash and discharged when the second arc path is energized to flash.

Multiflash system

A flash tube has a lead-in wire extending through the end of the flash tube. An end cap is bonded to the end of the flash tube with bonding material. A flexible sleeve is disposed around the lead-in wire to prevent contact between the bonding material and the lead-in wire.

A flashtube has an hermetically sealed glass envelope containing an inert gas and a pair of electrodes between which an arc discharge path is defined during lamp operation, and an insulated external trigger wire at the outer surface of the envelope. The trigger circuit includes a safety feature in the form of a sealed spaced gap to prevent an arc from occurring in the flashtube in the event that the flashtube envelope is cracked or broken.

A cold cathode arc discharge flash lamp has a cathode assembly in which an electron emissive pellet is secured on the lead wire or rod entering the flash tube envelope. One or more coils of molybdenum or a similar body of ceramic refractory shield the emissive face of the pellet from destructive ion bombardment while exposing the face for electron emission.

A flash tube has an hermetically sealed glass envelope containing an inert gas and a pair of electrodes between which an arc discharge path is defined during lamp operation, and an external trigger wire which is embedded within a glass tube which, in turn, is fused to the outer surface of the envelope.

Deuterium arc lamp

A flash tube having an elongated tubular envelope containing a pair of anode electrodes disposed at opposite ends and a centrally located cathode electrode which is common to both anodes for simultaneously defining two separate arc discharge paths during operation. The three-electrode configuration is particularly useful in photograhic and photocopying applications for minimizing dark spots and providing a shorter flash duration.

A xenon flashtube having an envelope formed of soft glass tubing with a pair of electrodes disposed at each end of the envelope for providing a wall-stabilized discharge. The use of soft glass permits a match seal to dumet lead-in wires and results in a lower cost unit.

Soft glass flashtube

A high voltage xenon filled flash tube has a trigger conductor wire embedded in the glass envelope of the tube or in an aluminum reflector on the tube. The wire does not penetrate the glass envelope nor enter the gas filled volume through which arc discharge occurs.
