A tamper-evident security device to be used in conjunction with a slidable closure on a carrier bag comprises a bottom component (positioned within the bag itself) and a top component attached to a front panel of the carrier bag so to be located over the bottom component. The top and bottom components are fixed together in an immovable form, and the top component includes a recess for supporting the slider mechanism of the slidable fastener. A lid component is coupled to the top component via a hinge element, wherein upon closure of the lid component over the top component, the slider mechanism of the fastener is fully enclosed. A provided frangible seal (included to indicate possible attempts to tamper with the closure) is attached to the security device, with an end portion of the top component including a cover tab to hold the frangible seal in place as the carrier bag is handled during transport.

A support fixture is disclosed that may be removably clamped to a bed rail (or any other support member) and includes a lower support arm attached to the removable clamp through a rotatable connector. An upper support arm is attached to a distal termination of the lower support arm via a pivot connector. A safety shield for use with a hypodermic syringe device is disclosed. The safety shield is moveable relative to the syringe barrel between retracted position and a needle containing position. In the retracted position, the syringe device may be used to inject the needle into the patient. After the medication has been injected or as the needle is withdrawn from the patient, in its operative mode the shield automatically extends from its retracted position to a needle containing position to shield the point of the needle to prevent accidental sticks and without further input from the operator to render the syringe unusable after a single injection.

A method and apparatus for placing an item of food into a cooking vessel capable of quickly achieving an effective frying temperature after placement into the hot cooking oil of a deep fryer is disclosed. The vessel includes a food containment area where food is placed in intimate contact with an interior wall of the vessel. Using a rack, the vessel is submerged into the oil to an effective depth such that the food item containment area remains below the surface of the cooking oil in the deep fryer while a vent of the cooking vessel remains above the cooking oil surface. Heat is substantially instantaneously transferred from the oil through the cooking vessel to the food item contained therein, causing the food to fry. Steam emitted from the food during cooking escapes through the vent.

Apparatus and method for barrier submersion cooking

A system and method for barrier submersion cooking comprising a thin walled plastic cooking pouch for receiving a food item effectively dimensioned such that when placed into a hot liquid cooking medium a vent remains above a top surface of the liquid cooking medium and a rack for lowering the vessel into the liquid cooking medium to an effective depth such that the food item received by the pouch is below the top surface of the liquid cooking medium and the vent is above the top surface of the liquid cooking medium. The pouch is formed of food grade pliable polymer film having a melt temperature above that of a temperature used in conventional hot oil flying processes, a heat transfer rate of an effective value to substantially instantaneously transfer heat from the liquid cooking medium to create an effective frying temperature upon the food item, and a pliability such that the pouch will collapse on itself when exposed to hydrostatic pressures when submerged within the liquid cooking medium, thereby effectively transferring heat to all food item surfaces.

A system and method for barrier submersion cooking comprising a thin walled plastic cooking pouch for receiving a food item effectively dimensioned such that when placed into a hot liquid cooking medium a vent remains above a top surface of the liquid cooking medium and a rack for lowering the vessel into the liquid cooking medium to an effective depth such that the food item received by the pouch is below the top surface of the liquid cooking medium and the vent is above the top surface of the liquid cooking medium. The pouch is formed of food grade pliable polymer film having a melt temperature above that of a temperature used in conventional hot oil frying processes, a heat transfer rate of an effective value to substantially instantaneously transfer heat from the liquid cooking medium to create an effective frying temperature upon the food item, and a pliability such that the pouch will collapse on itself when exposed to hydrostatic pressures when submerged within the liquid cooking medium, thereby effectively transferring heat to all food item surfaces.

A module adapted to generate a stream of hot and humid air, operating in conjunction either with a proofing chamber in which dough pieces are raised prior to baking or in conjunction with a holding chamber in which cooked food is maintained in a hot, moist state. The module is provided with a replenishable water reservoir from which water is fed into a steam generator in which the water is boiled to generate steam. Included in the module is a duct through which air is forced by a blower and an air heater disposed in the duct is used to heat the air. A conduit connects the steam generator to the duct and allows exhaust of steam into a positive-pressure zone (high pressure, after the blower) to effect a proofing action when the module is operated in proofing mode. Steam can also be fed into a low-pressure zone in the duct (at the blower inlet) to produce a stream of hot and humid air at a higher temperature whereby the module is operated in a food holding mode. Steam can also be exhausted in to both section (high pressure and low pressure) simultaneously. A water tank with an associated heater is used to generate the steam, and has an electrical connector so that tanks can be replaced or removed without opening or accessing the food holding compartment (whether such is used for holding or proofing). The configuration of the tank can be altered to provide less steam for proofing and more steam for holding food, by either a movable barrier in the tank separating a reservoir section from a steam generating section, or by providing a top to the tank having molded thereinto a barrier in a fixed position. A desired control scheme for controlling the temperature, humidity, and/or water level is provided based on the temperature, humidity, barrier position, and/or water level.

Module for producing hot humid air for a proofing or holding operation

A module adapted to generate a controllable volume of steam for humidifying an air stream. The module includes a generally rectangular tank transversely divided by a barrier wall into a water reservoir section and a steam generating section. The longitudinal position of the barrier wall in the tank is adjustable to vary the relative water capacities of the sections. Disposed within the steam generating section is a controllable electric heater unit that acts to boil the water in this section at an adjustable rate to generate steam which is discharged into the air stream. The water boiled off in the steam generating section is replenished by water drained from the reservoir section through a flow passage in the barrier wall.

Module for producing hot humid air for a proofing or holding chamber

A stripping and transfer assembly for a food product interleaver apparatus includes a conveyor having an endless-type conveying surface formed with raised ribs spaced apart in parallel, a comb member having a plurality of teeth inserted between the raised ribs at the downstream end of the conveyor and curved surfaces for lifting off food product units from the conveyor, and a rotatable transfer wheel positioned above the comb member having a flexible outer annular contact surface for lightly engaging food product units lifted off by the comb member and moving them to a drop-off point onto a carrier sheet. Preferably, the transfer wheel is made of an elastic material and has radial spokes extending at an inclined angle to the outer annular contact surface for promoting radial deformation of the transfer wheel. The relative positions of the comb member and transfer wheel can be adjusted optimally.

Stripping and transfer assembly for food interleaving apparatus

A module adapted to generate a stream of hot, humid air, the module operating in conjunction with a proofing chamber in which pieces of yeast dough are raised prior to baking by being subjected to this stream. One section of the module is occupied by a replenishable water reservoir from which water is fed into the water pan of a steam generator. The pan is provided with a water heater element for boiling the water to produce steam which is collected in a steam chamber above the pan. A parallel section of the module is occupied by an air duct whose air intake at the inlet end of the duct leads to an air blower blowing a stream of air through an air heater element producing a hot air stream that flows via a mixing zone toward an exhaust vent at the outlet end of the duct. Steam from the steam chamber is injected by a steam tube into the mixing zone in the duct to intermingle with the hot air stream whereby discharged from the exhaust vent is a stream of hot, humid air.

A storage system including a storage container body, a door, and a lock assembly, the lock assembly including a lock latch mechanism located in a side wall of the storage container body remote from the door, and a striker member located on the door, wherein the lock latch mechanism includes at least one lock catch selectively capable of engaging and securing either one of a storage article resident in the storage container body or the striker member. The lock latch assembly may include a lock latch extension mechanism that includes a shuttle slide including a locking portion engagable with a lock catch of the lock latch mechanism, and a latching portion engagable with the striker member of the lock latch mechanism. The lock latch extension mechanism preferably also includes a shuttle retainer for slidably supporting the shuttle slide between a locking position, where the lock catch of the lock latch mechanism is engagable with the locking portion, and a release position, where the lock catch is not engagable with the locking portion, and where the striker member is engagable with the latching portion when the shuttle slide is in either the locking position or the release position, and is releasable from the latching portion when the shuttle slide is in the release position.
