Luminescent compositions are provided having improved color intensity and articles incorporating said luminescent compositions as security taggants, for example as anti-counterfeiting components in pharmaceutical packaging applications, or as aesthetic colorants that are generally usable in any application where luminescent coloration is desired. The luminescent compositions incorporate a particulate fluoropolymer that is blended with one or more luminescent pigments and/or luminescent dyes. These components are provided in a liquid medium in which the fluoropolymer particles are dispersed and with which the pigment(s)/dye(s) may or may not be soluble.

Solid, solvent-free inks are provided for use in hot melt flexographic printing. The ink is composed of a pigment; a thermoplastic binder which is an ethylene copolymer, a hydrocarbon resin, or a combination thereof; a wax which is a highly branched hydrocarbon wax, a polyethylene homopolymer wax, an oxidized polyethylene wax, an animal wax, a vegetable wax or combinations thereof; a solid linear alcohol; and, a dispersing agent. The ink may also contain a solid plasticizer. The solid ink has a melting point of about 75&#xb0; C. or greater, and when heated to a temperature between about 90&#xb0; C. and about 135&#xb0; C., a molten ink is formed which has a viscosity between about 100 cps and about 1200 cps. The solid inks are used in melt flexographic printing by heating the ink to a temperature greater than about 90&#xb0; C. to form a molten ink which has a viscosity between about 100 cps and about 1200 cps; applying the molten ink to the surface of a heated anilox roller in operational contact with a heated flexographic printing plate; and printing the applied molten ink from the printing plate onto a substrate such as conventional print stock, polymeric films, metal sheets, etc.

Hot melt flexographic inks and method of preparing same

The present invention relates an improved silicone modified water-based emulsion used primarily for publication gravure ink. Publication gravure water-based ink produced with the new polymer exhibits superior paper holdout, smoother lay, and higher gloss on super calendered and uncoated paper substrates as compared to conventional water-based gravure inks.

A method for the production of an improved water soluble resin binder for laminating printing inks has been discovered. The method comprises esterifying the carboxylated Diels Alder adduct produced from the reaction of rosin and at least one carboxylated dienophile with a sufficient amount of at least one polyol to produce a modified rosin having an acid number greater than 157. The modified rosin is reacted with a sufficient amount of an acrylic copolymer having an acid number greater than 180 under esterification conditions between 175 &deg; C. and 185 &deg; C. for a time sufficient to produce a resin binder having an acid number greater than 157. A laminating ink formulation of the invention comprises water, pigment, styrene-acrylic varnish, shellac varnish, alkanol and the improved water soluble resin binder of the invention as described above.

Process for the production of water soluble modified rosin ester vehicles for laminating inks

A method for the production of an improved water soluble resin binder for laminating printing inks has been discovered. The method comprises esterifying the carboxylated Diels Alder adduct produced from the reaction of rosin and at least one carboxylated dienophile with a sufficient amount of at least one polyol to produce-a modified rosin having an acid number greater than 157. The modified rosin is reacted with a sufficient amount of an acrylic copolymer having an acid number greater than 180 under esterification conditions between 175.degree. C. and 185.degree. C. for a time sufficient to produce a resin binder having an acid number greater than 157. A laminating ink formulation of the invention comprises water, pigment, styrene-acrylic varnish, shellac varnish, alkanol and the improved water soluble resin binder of the invention as described above.

Process for the production of water soluble modified rosin ester

A heat-sealable adhesive for dissimilar substrates is disclosed comprising an organic solvent suspension of a graft copolymer of an A-B-A terblock copolymeric rubber, olefin copolymer and olefin terpolymer. Processing conditions are improved over known adhesive preparation conditions.

A method for the production of an improved water soluble resin binder for laminating printing inks has been discovered. An improved flexible packaging ink comprising a polyamide resin prepared by condensing a dibasic acid mixture with a diamine mixture, a pigment, nitrocellulose and a solvent, wherein the improvement comprises, a polyamide resin containing a monobasic acid and adding a dimerized rosin.

Flexible packaging printing ink

An aqueous cold seal release varnish comprising the reaction product of a mixture comprising 30-50 parts of a polyamide block copolymer having an acid value of 30-45, 1-5 parts of an amide wax, 10-20 parts of at least one C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkanol, 5-10 parts of an amine and 15-55 parts of water. The mixture is dissolved by heating at a temperature of 75.degree.-85.degree. C. for a period of time of not more than 90 minutes to produce a varnish. An aqueous cold seal release lacquer (CSRL) is prepared from the varnish by mixing with a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkanol, water and a surfactant.

Aqueous cold seal release lacquer

A thermosetting printing ink composition comprising a functional copolymer of a thermosettable polyester and a polysiloxane, a pigment, a crosslinking agent and a curing catalyst which may be a strong acid or a metal salt thereof. The composition desirably also includes a reactive diluent such as a glycol, glycol ether or alcohol. The compositions are especially useful for imprinting metal containers such as beer and soda cans.
