A hybrid stationary power generator is provided. The system is fueled from natural gas and based on SOFCs and high efficiency, internal combustion (IC) engine technologies is conceived to generate electric power at 100-kW scale with an efficiency of 71% and a capital cost of &#x3c;900 $/kW. This novel system integrates a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) stack with a high efficiency stationary engine and balance-of-plant (BOP) equipment to create a hybrid power system.

High efficiency solid oxide fuel cell&#x2014;internal combustion engine hybrid power system

The present invention relates to a reversible solid oxide electrochemical cell that may operate in two modes: a discharge mode (power generation) and a charge mode (electrolytic fuel production). A thermal system that utilizes a SOFB and is inclusive of selection of operating conditions that may enable roundtrip efficiencies exceeding about 80% to be realized is disclosed. Based on leverage of existing solid oxide fuel cell technology, the system concept is applicable to energy storage applications on the kW to MW scale.

Solid oxide fuel system

A flexible intravascular guidewire comprises a plurality of filaments braided together and drawn through a die to a reduced cross-sectional area of circular shape. Preferably, one or more of the filaments is coated with a radiopaque material prior to drawing it through the dye. According to a preferred embodiment, each of the filaments is made from the same metallic material; alternatively, the filament material may differ, e.g., to provide flexibility and torsional stiffness characteristics which are unachievable in a metal monofilament, or in a multifilament wire of the same filament materials.
