Multilayer structures, methods of making the same and packages made therefrom are provided. The multilayer structures are useful for packaging bone-in meat or other like products. More specifically, the multilayer structures have sufficient rigidity and strength to contain bone-in meat or other like products, while also maintaining good oxygen barrier properties. In addition, multilayer structures can easily seal to themselves or to other structures. Moreover, the multilayer structures are biaxially oriented and heat-shrinkable.

Multilayer barrier structures, methods of making the same and packages made therefrom

Multilayer structures, methods of making the same and packages made therefrom are provided. The multilayer structures are useful for packaging bone-in meat or other like products. More specifically, the multilayer structures have sufficient rigidity and strength to contain bone-in meat or other like products. In addition, multilayer structures can easily seal to themselves or to other structures. Moreover, the multilayer structures are biaxially oriented and heat-shrinkable.

Multilayer structures, packages, and methods of making multilayer structures

A multilayer film is provided that comprises a nylon skin layer, a buried high density polyethylene layer, and a sealant layer, for use, for example, to form a package for dry food products. The multilayer film has a thickness of less than about 2.0 mils, such as between 0.8-1.7 mils, a moisture vapor transmission rate of less than about 0.30 g/100 in/day, and a tear strength in the machine direction of greater than 40 grams, for instance at least about 120 grams. The multilayer film may further include a buried nylon layer and exhibit a tear strength in the machine direction of greater 190 grams.

The embodiments of the present invention relate to multilayer thermoplastic structures having improved sealability and tearability. More specifically, the present invention relates to a multilayer heat sealant structure having at least three layers that may be coextrusion coated or otherwise laminated to a substrate, such as metallized polymeric material, foil, or other substrates.

Multilayer heat sealant structures, packages and methods of making the same

A film structure having an inner barrier layer comprised of a blend of a polyamide and ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer. The polyamide is present in the blend in an amount of from 15-40%, and most preferably from 25-30%. The inner barrier layer is laminated on each side with a layer of a polyamide. The preferred polyamide is nylon, and particularly nylon 6. In a preferred embodiment, the film structure is layered with an oxide or ceramic layer. Included is a method of manufacturing the film and for using the film structure to package a product in a retort packaging process.

Encapsulated barrier for flexible films and a method of making and using the same

A clear, multilayer polymeric film that is desirable for thermoforming applications. The film in its various embodiments include two inner layers of nylon and/or a core layer of ethylene vinyl alcohol or ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer sandwiched between the two inner nylon layers. The film also has an outer layer of a heat sealable polymer and may also have an outer layer of nylon. The film is coextruded, blown into a tubular shape, oriented, and cooled by the method of tubular water quenching. The film has various improved physical properties over the prior art, including properties of 'memory', clarity, gloss and low haze.

Thermoformable multilayer polymeric film

The present invention relates to a film structure and a method of manufacturing the same. More specifically, the film structure may include a barrier material made from EVOH, nylon or other thermally sensitive barrier material encapsulated by a first adhesive material. The barrier material and the first adhesive material form a barrier layer and a first set of adhesive layers when coextruded. The barrier layer and the first set of adhesive layers may be coextruded at the same or a similar temperature to form a first extrudate. The extrudate may be encapsulated by or otherwise coextruded with a second adhesive material to form a second extrudate at a higher temperature than the first extrudate that then may be formed into a flat sheet via a die. The first set of adhesive layers protects the barrier layer from high temperatures and long residence times related to the coextrusion/lamination process that may degrade the barrier layer. In addition, acid terpolymer consisting of ethylene/methyl acrylate/acrylic acid adheres a barrier material of EVOH to outer layers of the film structure.

A multiple layer polymeric film comprising three layers wherein the first layer comprises a blend of ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer, linear low-density polyethylene, and a second ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer, the second layer comprises ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer; and the third layer comprises a blend of linear low-density polyethylene and low-density polyethylene said second layer being disposed between said first and third layer and wherein each a color concentrate, a slip additive and an antiblock additive may optionally and independently be present in layers one, two and three.

The present invention relates to an extrusion die assembly. Specifically, the present invention relates to an extrusion die assembly comprising a pair of extrusion dies wherein one extrusion die is disposed within the second extrusion die. The extrusion dies may comprise a plurality of extrusion die modules wherein at least one of the extrusion die modules incorporates a flat compression deal with a conical or otherwise angled spillover surface. Further, the present invention relates to a method for utilizing an extrusion die assembly comprising a pair of extrusion dies, each having at least one extrusion die module having a conical or otherwise angled spillover surface.

Further, the present invention relates to a method for utilizing an extrusion die module with a conical or otherwise angled spillover surface to minimize the die surface area wetted by an intermediate layer in a multi-layer coextrusion process.
