A seat assembly is provided for supporting an occupant above a floor in an automotive vehicle. The seat assembly includes a seat cushion that is adapted to be pivotally coupled to the floor for movement between a raised position spaced above the floor and a lowered position adjacent the floor. The seat assembly also includes a seat back that is adapted to be pivotally coupled to the floor for movement between an upright position and a folded position overlying the seat cushion. At least one drive link extends between a first end pivotally coupled to the seat back and a second end pivotally and slidably coupled to the seat cushion for automatically moving the seat cushion between the raised and lowered positions in response to pivoting the seat back between the upright and folded positions thereby defining a seating position and a stowed position of the seat assembly.

Fold flat seat assembly with drive link

A seat assembly is provided for supporting an occupant above a floor in an automotive vehicle. The seat assembly includes a seat back operatively coupled to a seat cushion for movement between a generally upright seating position and a forwardly folded flat position with the seat back overlying the seat cushion. The seat assembly also includes a fold flat mechanism. The fold flat mechanism includes a guide track extending between a forward end and a rearward end. A control link has a first end pivotally and glidingly coupled to the guide track for sliding movement between the forward and rearward ends while pivoting thereabout and a second end pivotally coupled to the seat back for pivotal movement thereof. A swing link is operatively coupled between the control link and the guide track for controlling the pivoting and sliding movement of the control link along the guide track in response to the pivotal movement of the seat back thereby translating the seat back upwardly and forwardly relative to the seat cushion during the movement from the seating position to the forwardly folded flat position.

Rising pivot seat

The invention provides the combination of a seat frame and a cover, having a seam, covering the seat frame. An air bag unit, having an air bag, is disposed inside the cover and is supported by the frame. An intensifier sleeve, having a pair of sheets, sandwiches the air bag therebetween with the sheets being connected to the seam of the cover and supported by the seat frame. A fastener is included and has outboard and inboard portions with the portions being connected the free edges of the sheets. The portions each include a back panel and a series of J-shaped hooks. The seat assembly is characterized by an alignment device disposed on the portions to ensure that the J-shaped hooks are aligned when the J-shaped hooks are interleaved with one another such that the outboard portion is securely interconnected to the inboard portion. This ensures that the sheets are securely supported on the seat frame and that the sheets will remain supported on the seat frame during a deployment of the air bag.

Self aligning and locking fastener

The invention provides the combination of a seat frame, a cover, having a seam, covering the seat frame. An air bag unit is disposed inside the cover and is mounted to the frame. A pair of intensifier sheets sandwich the air bag unit there between. Each of the sheets has a first edge connected to the seam and a second edge supported by the seat frame. The combination is characterized by an interlocking fastener having outboard and inboard portions mechanically interlocked with the outboard portion connected to one of the second edges and the inboard portion connected to the other of the second edges. Each of the outboard and inboard portions includes a back panel extending in a strip between opposite ends. A plurality of J-shaped hooks are disposed in side by side relationship between the opposite ends. A plurality of slots separate adjacent J-shaped hooks and support ribs extend from the back panel and support each of the J-shaped hooks.

Self locking fastener

The side air bag directional guide system is provided for intensifying the forces applied to a seam in a vehicle seat for allowing the air bag to be deployed through an opening in the seam. The air bag directional guide system includes a vehicle seat including a seat back having a seat cover. An air bag unit is mounted inside of the seat cover and a membrane is wrapped around the air bag unit and has first and second ends connected to a seam in the seat cover. Upon deployment of the air bag, the membrane intensifies the forces applied to the seam thereby tearing open the seam to provide an opening through which the air bag is deployed.

Side air bag directional guide system

A 'fold-out' or integral child restraint seat having a mechanism interconnecting a seatback member and a seat member for causing coordinated movement therebetween. When it is desired to deploy the integral child seat, the seatback member is automatically moved to its reclined operative position in coordination with movement of the seat member to its lowered operative position. Conversely, when it is desired to stow the integral child seat, the seatback member is automatically moved to its upright storage position in coordination with movement of the seat member to its raised storage position. As a result, movement of the integral child seat between its stowed and deployed positions can be accomplished in one operation for substantially enhancing the convenience afforded to the person attempting such movement. The integral child seat also provides lateral side bolsters formed on each of the seatback member and seat member that are alignable in the deployed position to establish substantially continuous lateral supports along the entire length of the child seat.

Child safety seat with side bolsters

A vehicular seat is disclosed having a built-in child restraint seat integrated into its underlying frame structure. Segments of the frame structure are adapted to yield in a controlled manner under certain high load conditions to absorb a portion of the loading that would ultimately be transmitted to a child strapped in the built-in child seat. The frame structure associated with the integrated vehicular seat of the present invention includes a seat cushion frame assembly and a seatback frame assembly. A modular child seat assembly is secured to the seatback frame assembly. The frame structure includes first yieldable means for permitting the seatback frame assembly to deform in a controlled manner relative to the seat frame assembly. The frame structure further includes second yieldable means for permitting the interconnection between the modular child seat assembly and the seatback frame assembly to also deform in a controlled manner.
