A technique includes receiving data representing a measurement acquired by a tool motion sensor of a downhole sonic measurement tool; and receiving data representing a measurement acquired by a pressure sensor of the sonic measurement tool. The technique includes modifying the measurement acquired by the pressure sensor based at least in part on the measurement acquired by the tool motion sensor to attenuate tool borne noise.

Various implementations described herein are directed to a seismic survey using an augmented reality device. In one implementation, a method may include determining current location data of an augmented reality (AR) device in a physical environment. The method may also include receiving placement instructions for a first seismic survey equipment in the physical environment based on the current location data. The method may further include displaying the placement instructions in combination with a view of the physical environment on the AR device.

An embodiment of the disclosed invention includes a method for attenuating noise during acquisition of marine seismic date. The method includes placing a seismic streamer in a body of water. The seismic streamer includes a streamer body having a length and a channel, a seismic sensor disposed within the channel, and a gel disposed within the channel. The gel has a complex viscosity of at least 50 Pascals and includes a concentration of a polymer between the range of about 5% and about 25% by weight. The method also includes placing a source in the body of water. The seismic streamer and the source are towed through the body of water and the source is fired while being towed through the body of water. Data is collected from the seismic streamer as it is towed through the body of water.

A method to perform a marine seismic survey includes obtaining marine seismic data corresponding to a subterranean formation under a water surface. The marine seismic data is generated from an underwater seismic sensor that is subject to an interference effect. The method further includes generating, by a computer processor and using a deconvolution operation, corrected marine seismic data based at least in part on the marine seismic data to compensate for the interference effect, and generating, by the computer processor, a marine seismic survey result based at least in part on the corrected marine seismic data.

A seismic sensing unit includes four uniaxial sensors each capable of detecting a movement component along a respective axis having a respective orientation and arranged such that the angles between any two of said respective orientations of said respective axes are substantially equal, wherein the uniaxial sensors are arranged such that in use the respective axes are at substantially the same angle to the vertical direction and the horizontal direction, and wherein the uniaxial sensors are geophones, accelerometers, seismometers or their combinations.

A sonde for installation in a well including a clamp () for engaging with the inner wall of a well casing () and securing device for securing the clamp to inner tubing of the well, whereby the securing device includes an attachment device () for connection to the inner tubing and a rod () connected between the clamp and the attachment device.

A sonde and an apparatus for the deployment thereof against a well casing is described, the sonde comprising a resilient C-shaped member and at least one sensor.

Sonde

Apparatus is disclosed for securing a sonde to the inner wall of a well casing (). The sonde () comprises a clamp () expandable from a contracted position to an expanded position in which the clamp can engage the inner wall. The securing apparatus comprises a member () for releasably engaging with the clamp () to hold the clamp in the contracted position; a spring () connected to the member such that when the spring is in a compressed state, the member is constrained into engagement with the clamp to hold the clamp in the contracted position; and a mechanism () for holding the spring () in its compressed state during a 10 first mode of operation and, in a second mode of operation, for releasing the spring () from its compressed state thus disengaging the member () from the clamp to permit the clamp to expand into its expanded position, the mechanism including a material () which in the first mode of operation, is in a solid state and, in the second mode of operation, is in a liquid state.

Data processing means are described for calculating an estimated time of arrival of a seismic or microseismic P or S wave at a sensor station, based on a P to S wave velocity ratio, a calculated estimated time of origin of the event and, where the estimated arrival time of a P wave is to be calculated, a picked arrival time of the S wave at the sensor station or, where the estimated arrival time of a S wave is to be calculated, a picked arrival time of the P wave at the sensor station.

Signals from microseismic events are used to obtain a parameter of reservoir such as porosity, permeability or saturation.

Microseismic signal processing

A method of monitoring a microseismic event includes detecting the event to produce a first signal dependent on the event. The first signal includes noise at a frequency of, for example 50 Hz. A first sample of the first signal is taken. Then a second sample of the first signal is taken, the second sample occurring n/f seconds after the first sample, where n is an integer (e.g. 1). Subtracting the first and second samples from each other produces a farther signal dependent on the event in which the noise has been at least partly compensated for.

Monitoring a microseismic event

A method of using a seismic detector including four seismic sensors having axes which are in a substantially tetrahedral configuration, each of the sensors being in a respective signal channel, includes one or more of the following steps: combining outputs from the sensors to check that their polarities are correct; testing to ascertain if one of the sensors is not working and, if so, using the outputs from the other three sensors to obtain an indication of motion in three dimensions; if all four sensors are working, using their outputs to obtain an indication of motion in three dimensions on a least squares basis; checking that the outputs from the sensors are coherent; and checking the gains (or sensitivities) of the four channels.
