A mounting bracket and structural bridging fastener comprises an angle mounting bracket attached to a stable base, the bracket comprising a substantially planar main body and a mounting plate oriented perpendicular to the main body, the mounting plate and main body being connected through a complex formation in the angle mounting bracket, a loaded subcomponent configured to be attached to the mounting bracket so that the attachment point of the loaded subcomponent is aligned directly with the main body, a fastener comprising a structural portion adapted to lie between and be rigidly fastened to the mounting plate and to the main body adjacent the complex formation, with the fastener further comprising a threaded portion adapted to connect the loaded subcomponent to the mounting plate. The threaded portion may be an extension of the structural portion adapted to receive a nut, or the threaded portion may be internal to the structural portion and adapted to receive a bolt. The mounting bracket and structural bridging fastener is particularly adapted to secure a vehicular steering column assembly to a vehicular cross-car instrument panel structure.

Structural bridging fastener

A vehicular suspension arm, comprises an upper sheet metal stamped component with a first outer face and a first inner face, and a first central web portion with two opposites sides and first upstanding flange portions at opposites sides of the first web portion; a lower sheet metal stamped component with a second outer face and a second inner face, and a second central web portion with two opposite sides and second upstanding flange portions at the opposite sides of the second web portion. The first and second inner faces are adapted to contact each other along a substantial portion of the first and second web portions. The upper and lower stamped components adapted to be rigidly attached to each other to create a structural I-beam section. The thickness of each upstanding flange portion is at least equal to the combined thickness of the first and second web portions.

A pivotable grab handle device is movable between a stowed position, which is positioned against the main tailgate structure, and a deployed position that projects upwardly above the top surface of a lowered main tailgate structure. The grab handle device is mounted on a retainer bracket that is affixed to the top surface of the lowered main tailgate structure. The grab handle incorporates a spring-loaded latch mechanism that is cooperable with the pivot bracket when in the stowed position and cooperable with a striker plate mounted below the top surface of the main tailgate structure to fix the grab handle in the deployed position. A release lever projecting outwardly of the grab handle permits a retraction of the latch member to release the grab handle from either the pivot bracket or the striker plate to allow pivotal movement of the grab handle into the desired position.

A one hand push button release mechanism is associated with a supplemental tailgate assembly to affect the release of the supplemental tailgate for deployment from the main tailgate apparatus. One embodiment of the push button mechanism engages a wedge having a cam surface that causes the wedge to move vertically with respect to the push button to pull on a linkage that releases a pivoted catch member. A second embodiment utilizes a laterally slidable push button that depresses into the molding to engage a spacer that is laterally movable with the push button to be movable into an interfering position with respect to the catch member to lock the supplemental tailgate in the stowed position. In both embodiments, a spring is operable to bias the locking mechanism into a locked position when the supplemental tailgate is returned to the stored position.
