A drive assembly for printer carriages and the like comprised of a closed looped metallic tape entrained about a drive and a driven pulley and being moved at a substantially constant rate. The carriage assembly reciprocally slides along guide rods for linear movement in a forward and reverse direction and is provided with guideways for enabling substantially unimpeded movement of the upper and lower runs respectively of said closed looped tape. Solenoid operated jam cleat assemblies are respectively engageable with the upper and lower runs of said closed looped tape in a mutually exclusive fashion. Connecting rod means is provided to assure engagement of only one of the jam cleats with the associated run of the closed loop tape to prevent stopping or jamming of the tape and to assist in the release of the deactivated jam cleat. By selective energization of the pair of solenoid assemblies, the carriage assembly may be moved in either the forward or reverse direction at any given instant of time. A dot matrix print head may be mounted upon the reciprocating carriage assembly which by appropriate utilization of printer electronics, may be utilized for either unidirectional or bidirectional printer systems.

Bidirectional carriage drive employing a closed loop belt drive means

A correction device for typewriters and the like, including a material, preferably in liquid form, maintained at a predetermined pressure within a container. The container outlet is coupled through a narrow elongated tube whose dispensing end is positioned upon the typewriter carriage or other device so as to be located immediately across from the last printed character or other symbol. An operating switch activates an electronic circuit for dispensing a measured amount of the material over the last printed character, the color of said material being the same as the paper being printed upon to provide the same effect as erasure of the character. The dispensing of the measured dosage may be accomplished either by electronic or mechanical means. The erasure means may be provided as an integral part of the typewriter unit or as an independent stand-alone accessory.

Correction device for typewriters and the like

A chip counter for use in gaming applications and the like comprising a tray having a trough for receiving chips, which trough is provided with a slit at the bottom thereof. The chips are stacked in the trough and are each provided with a strip about their periphery which is adapted to be more reflective to illuminating light than the main body of the chip. Reading means scans the chips in the trough along the slit provided therefor and counts pulses representative of the passage across the more highly light emissive edge of the chip. The more highly light emissive portions of the edges of each chip are made narrower than the thickness of each chip to develop discrete pulses. Counting of chips of different denominations is accomplished by providing light emissive strips which emit light of differing wavelengths when light activated. The reader employs filters for passing predetermined light wavelength ranges to develop pulses representative of the proper wavelengths of light to make denominational decisions.

Chip structure

A chip structure for use in gaming applications and the like which, while formed of a lightweight, inexpensive plastic, nevertheless is weighted with at least one metallic insert to provide the resultant chip with more 'body.' An annular ring is arranged around the periphery of the chip to facilitate the identification and presence of the chip through automated counting apparatus.
