A biopsy device includes a body, a needle, a cutter, an analysis area, a valve, and a tissue sample holder. The cutter is movable relative to the needle and in communication with the needle for transporting tissue samples. The analysis area is disposed proximally of the cutter and in communication with the needle to receive a tissue sample cut by the cutter for analysis by a user. The valve is disposed proximally of the analysis area and configured to alternate between an open configuration and a closed configuration. The tissue sample holder is disposed proximally of the valve and fixedly attached to the body. The valve is configured to permit analysis of the sample disposed in the analysis area when the valve is in the closed configuration and to permit the tissue sample to be passed into the tissue sample holder when the valve is in the open configuration.

Tissue sample holder with enhanced features

A biopsy imaging rod () includes an elongated rod member () having a sharp distal end () and a channel extending from a proximal end to an egress port () near the distal end, and it also includes an onboard biopsy marker () positioned in the channel proximal to the egress port. The biopsy imaging rod also includes a pushrod () slideably positioned in the channel adjacent to the biopsy marker extending from the proximal end of the elongated rod member to the egress port, the pushrod biased to bend toward the biopsy marker. The biopsy imaging rod may additionally include an imageable portion between the distal end and the egress port. Methods for making and using the biopsy imaging rod are also disclosed.

A cutter actuation assembly for actuating a cutter of a biopsy device includes a cutter sleeve, a receiving member, and a linear actuator. The cutter sleeve is fixedly secured to the cutter of the biopsy device. The receiving member is configured to receive at least a portion of the cutter sleeve. The linear actuator is configured to translate the cutter sleeve. The receiving member is configured to rotate the cutter sleeve as the cutter sleeve is translated relative to the receiving member.

A depth stop assembly for use with a biopsy device targeting cannula includes a depth stop and a thumbwheel. The depth stop is configured to receive the targeting cannula. The depth stop has a lock to selectively restrict axial movement of the targeting cannula relative to the depth stop. The thumbwheel is motion-coupled to the depth stop. The thumbwheel has a circumferential finger gripping area.

An apparatus includes a needle, a cutter, a medication fluid path, and a filter assembly. The needle defines a tissue receiving feature. The cutter is movable relative to the needle to sever tissue protruding into the tissue receiving feature. The medication fluid path includes a first portion and a second portion. The first portion is configured to couple with a source of medication fluid. The tissue receiving feature is in fluid communication with the medication fluid path such that the first portion is upstream of the tissue receiving feature. The filter assembly is located in the second portion of the medication fluid path. The filter assembly is configured to permit air to pass through the filter assembly. The filter assembly is further configured to prevent medication fluid from passing through the filter assembly.

Guide and filter for biopsy device

A marker delivery device, 'adaptor', for a MRI breast biopsy system is described and claimed. The marker adaptor for the MRI breast biopsy device provides the operator with the ability to easily mark after an MRI biopsy procedure through the biopsy sleeve. The flexible shaft marker snaps into the marking adaptor which creates the oval shape that mates with the inner surface of the sleeve. This locks the orientation of the sleeve and marker, with adaptor, together. The marker adaptor also contains a hard-stop which allows the user to place the biopsy marker in the correct location.

Marker delivery device for use with MRI breast biopsy system

A biopsy system, including a biopsy device, a localization assembly, and a control module. The localization assembly is configured to orient the biopsy device relative to a patient. The control module is communication with the biopsy device. The control module is configured to operate a plurality of functional features of the biopsy device. The control module includes a cable and a cable management assembly. The cable management assembly includes a pair of cable management plates, and a weight. Each of the pair cable management plates are disposed substantially parallel to each other and define a space therebetween. The weight is configured to move within the space defined by the pair of cable management plates. The weight is attachable to the cable of the control module and is further configured to slide axially along the cable.

MRI biopsy system

A biopsy device comprises a probe body, a needle portion, a hollow cutter, and a tissue sample holder. The needle portion extends distally from the probe body and comprises a transverse tissue receiving aperture. The hollow cutter is translatable relative to the needle portion to sever a tissue sample from tissue protruding though the aperture. The hollow cutter defines a cutter lumen. The tissue sample holder comprises a body and a tissue sample tray. The tissue sample tray is removably engaged with the body and comprises a downwardly extending lumen. The downwardly extending lumen includes a pair of lower openings which are in communication with a chamber defined by the tissue sample tray.

A biopsy system comprises an introducer and a biopsy device. The introducer comprises a cannula and at least two leaves. The cannula comprises an ovular cross-section, an open distal end and an open proximal end. The ovular cross-section defines a lumen extending between the open distal end and the open proximal end. The ovular cross-section of the cannula includes at least two flat sides. The at least two leaves extend distally from the open distal end. At least a portion of each of the at least two leaves extend from a respective flat side of the at least two flat sides of the cannula. The biopsy device comprises a body and an elongate needle. The elongate needle extends distally from the body. The elongate needle includes an ovular cross-section defining two straight sides. The cannula of the introducer is configured to slidably receive the elongate needle of the biopsy device.
