A system for providing lifeline telecommunication service includes a gateway, an analog signal service module, and an integrated access device. The gateway receives telecommunication information from a telecommunication switch and generates data packets for communicating the telecommunication information. The analog signal service module is remotely coupled to the gateway. The analog signal service module may receive the data packets from the gateway and generate a first analog telephone signal for communicating the telecommunication information over a local loop circuit. Coupled to the local loop circuit, the integrated access device may receive the first analog telephone signal from the analog signal service module and communicate the first analog telephone signal to a subscriber line in a first mode of operation. The integrated access device also may receive the data packets from the gateway, process the data packets to generate a second analog telephone signal communicating the telecommunication information, and communicate the second analog telephone signal to the subscriber line in a second mode of operation.

A telecommunications network () includes a gateway () receiving signaling information in a media gateway and call session control format from a Classsoftswitch (). The gateway () converts the media gateway and call session control format to a broadband loop emulation service signaling protocol for transfer to integrated access devices () at a customer premises () through a broadband loop emulation services network (). The gateway () also receives signal information in a broadband loop emulation service signaling protocol from the integrated access devices () through the broadband loop emulation services network (). The gateway () converts the broadband loop emulation service signaling protocol to the media gateway and call session control format for transfer to the Classsoftswitch (). The Classsoftswitch () places the media gateway and call session control format into a network signal format for transfer over a signaling network ().

System and method for interfacing between signaling protocols

A method for allocating bandwidth in a communications environment is provided that includes receiving one or more data streams associated with one or more subscribers at a voice gateway. One or more algorithms included in the voice gateway are executed that are associated with traffic management of the data streams in order to generate a designated bandwidth value associated with one or more of the data streams. The designated bandwidth value is assigned to one or more of the data streams based on one or more of the algorithms that use an aggregation of one or more activity characteristics associated with a selected one or more of the subscribers.

System and method for allocating bandwidth in a communications environment

A method for cross connecting an ATM network and a telecommunication switch includes receiving ATM cells from the ATM network at a packet sorter and extracting data packets comprising address data and payload data from the ATM cells. Translated addresses are generated based on the address data, and new data packets are created based on the payload data and the translated addresses to create new ATM cells with the new data packets. The new ATM cells are scheduled to be transmitted from the packet sorter to an ATM switch in compliance with an ATM service contract. The new ATM cells are forwarded from the ATM switch to at least one distributed SAR, which converts the new ATM cells into TDM signals and transmits the TDM signals from to the telecommunication switch via at least one TDM port.

A voice gateway () in a telecommunications network () includes a plurality of telephony port modules (). Each telephony port module () receives telephony voice signals from a public switched telephony network (). Each telephony port module () includes one or more digital signal processors () that perform one or more processing functions on the telephony voice signals. A particular telephony port module () may receive a telephony voice signal and use its associated digital signal processor () to process the received telephony voice signal or transfer the received telephony voice signal for processing to any digital signal processor () on any telephony port module (). Telephony signals may also be transferred for processing to digital signal processors () on another voice gateway () in a voice gateway system.

System and method for interfacing telephony voice signals with a broadband access network

A telecommunications network () includes a gateway () that receives signaling information in a message based signaling format from a Class 5 softswitch (). The gateway () also receives voice traffic over an inter-machine trunk from a public switched telephone network (). The gateway () places the voice traffic into data packets. The gateway () transfers the data packets and the signaling information to an Internet Protocol network (). The data packets and the signaling information may be transferred over a common physical link and over separate logical links.

System and method for interfacing signaling information and voice traffic

A gateway for communicating telecommunication information between a telecommunication network and customer premises equipment, includes a telecommunication interface, a management module, compression modules, and packetization modules. The telecommunication interface receives telecommunication information from the telecommunication network for communication to the customer premises equipment. The management module determines a bandwidth available to communicate the telecommunication information to the customer premises equipment and selects a compression algorithm according to the available bandwidth. The compression modules compress the telecommunication information using the selected compression algorithm, and the packetization modules generate data packets for communicating the telecommunication information.
