Ferrophosphorus alloys and their use in cement composites

A method for repulping a wet strength paper is disclosed. Wet strength paper, which contains a wet strength resin, is agitated in water to form an aqueous slurry. An effective amount of a composition that contains a dry mixture of a persulfate and a base in the range of 90:10 to 10:90 is added either before or during agitation, and the slurry heated to produce pulp product for paper manufacture. The persulfate/base combination is capable of breaking down the wet strength resin and adjusting or maintaining the pH at a predetermined level without additional chemical treatment.

Persulfate mixtures for repulping wet strength paper

Repulping and/or decolorizing formulations and mixtures which include a catalytic amount of a salt of a metal such as copper, iron, silver, or nickel; a persulfate; and from 0-10% saccharide. Formulations containing a carbonate, sesquicarbonate or bicarbonate for adjusting pH are preferred. A method of repulping and/or decolorizing broke, whether containing wet strength resin or not, using the formulations or mixtures of the ingredients in the formulations.

Method for repulping and/or decolorizing broke using persulfate/metal

An alkali metal peroxydisulfate or caroate can be used alone or in combination to destroy haloform present in an aqueous system. The destruction results in a reduction in the amount of haloform in the system. In another aspect, uv light and the peroxydisulfate and/or caroate can be used together to destroy the haloform present in the aqueous system.

Persulfate/metal mixtures for repulping and/or decolorizing paper

A composition containing a persulfate and a carbonate, a bicarbonate or sesquicarbonate, which composition is suitable for oxidizing wet strength resin based broke used in wet strength paper. The combination decreases the time required for effectively repulping broke from such paper. Additionally, the combination is a single product capable of beaking down the wet strength resin and adjusting or maintaining pH at a predetermined value without additional chemical treatment.

Persulfates are used to provide water clarity when organic sanitizers such as biguanides are utilized for sanitizing recreational waters. Persulfate applications of 2 ppm or more can be used. Additionally, maintenance applications of the persulfate or the bisulfate can be used.

A process is provided in which manganese dioxide stains in denim fabric which has been partially decolorized with potassium permanganate are neutralized or removed by an aqueous solution of peracetic acid containing at least 1 part by weight acetic acid and 1.5 parts by weight hydrogen peroxide per part by weight peracetic acid.

An environmentally improved process is provided to fade denim fabric either as the woven fabric or after being made up into garments. The denim fabric may optionally be uniformly faded, or faded in a random pattern and stone washed. The effluent from the process does not have the disadvantage of the high COD of conventional processes.

Wet processing of denim

The rate of reaction of alkali metal acid pyrophosphate leavening acids can be reduced significantly while still providing a leavening system which will proof by co-milling the alkali metal pyrophosphate with an oxide or hydroxide of an alkaline earth metal such as calcium or magnesium followed by heat treating to co-milled product. The combination of the co-milling and the heat treatment significantly reduces the rate of reaction of the alkali metal acid pyrophosphate leavening acid at room temperature. The reaction rate can also be lowered by blending calcium hydroxide with a premilled SAPP which was heat treated in the absence of additional moisture subsequent to milling and prior to calcium hydroxide addition and subsequently heat treating the composition. The leavening acid compositions of the invention find particular use inrefrigerated canned doughs.

Alkali metal acid pyrophosphate leavening acid compositions and methods

The rate of reaction of alkali metal acid pyrophosphate leavening acids can be stabilized significantly while still providing a leavening system which will proof by blending the alkali metal pyrophosphate with an oxide or hydroxide of magnesium. The leavening acid compositions of the invention find particular use in refrigerated canned doughs.

A process for applying an aqueous mixture of a magnesium phosphate cementitious material to a base material in which the resulting bond between the materials is improved. In this method the base material is coated with a passivating agent capable of reducing the pH of the surface of the base material prior to applying the aqueous mixture of magnesium phosphate cementitious material. The base material can be a hydraulic cementitious material, e.g., Portland cement. The cementitious material is magnesium phosphate quick-setting cement. Preferred passivating agents can be aluminum acid phosphate, magnesium acid phosphate, aluminum sulfate, ammonium polyphosphate, phosphoric acid, an activator and mixtures thereof. The resulting laminated structure composed of the base material, the coating and the magnesium phosphate cementitious material is also disclosed.
