A wireless communication device () includes a processor () and a wireless network interface (), communicatively coupled with the processor (), for determining the presence of a network providing wireless communication service. The device () also includes a memory () for storing a plurality of emergency service connection profiles. One of the profiles is selected based on the network determined to be present. The selected profile is then presented via a user interface () to a user of the wireless communication device () as a single emergency call model that is uniform among the profiles.

A method for determining the co-location of cell sites includes the steps of acquiring a neighbor cell list (), monitoring the neighbor cell sites for longitude and latitude information (). Te longitude and latitude information is used of calculating the distance and bearings between the serving and neighbor cell sites (and). Neighbor cell sites having similar bearing and distances are grouped together (), if grouped neighbors are in close proximity, the centroid of a polygon formed by the sector vertices is determined () and new latitude and longitude information for the centorid is determined (). The neighbor cell list is then modified to indicate sectored versus omni-directional sites () and the information is then used by the communication device to make better mobility decisions. In another embodiment of the invention, the co-location information is used to minimize ping-pong effect which causes a communication device to be continually being handed back and forth between ell sites.

Method of determining co-location of cell sites and reducing ping-pong effect between cell sites

A method for automatically entering a SIM's PIN in case of a reset or other condition includes the steps of storing () in RAM the PIN after it has been verified (). Whenever a reset condition occurs, the PIN that is cached in RAM () is automatically presented to the SIM (). In order to make sure that the PIN stored in RAM () in not corrupted during a reset condition, the inverse () or other coded form of the PIN is also stored in RAM () as an additional check of the correctness of the stored PIN.

Method for providing a personal identification number to a subscriber identity module

A subscriber unit handles incoming calls routed through an old server site while in the process of switching site affiliation to a new server site (500). The subscriber unit initiates the switching of site affiliation (510), and during the process, alternates between receiving communication from the new server site (520) and receiving communication from the old server site to monitor for an incoming call (530). When an incoming call routed through the old server site is detected (540), the subscriber unit aborts or suspends the switching process and accepts the incoming call through the old server site (551, 552).
