A sustained release delivery system and composition of materials for slowly releasing an additive to a fermentation fluid over a sustained period of time of up to 96 hours is described. The product of the present invention includes a complement of additives and a sustained release mechanism to allow a single addition of components that yield release profiles consistent with multiple additions in juice, fermented beverages, other foodstuffs, and biofuels production.

Absorbent polymer compositions, medical articles, and methods

A conformable adhesive article for use as a sterile medical dressing is described. The article includes a breathable polymeric matrix, a plurality of phases, and an adhesive composition positioned on the polymeric matrix. The plurality of phases preferably provide reinforcement and stiffness to the article. The article permits transport of moisture across the breathable polymeric matrix, preferably at an Inverted water moisture vapor transmission rate of at least 300 g/m/24 hours.

Adhesive composite having distinct phases

A laminated composite suitable for use in medical products such as tapes and wraps. The composite includes, for example, a first nonwoven fiber layer, an elastic layer, a melt blown adhesive fiber layer, and a second nonwoven fiber layer. A scrim layer serves as a deadstop, or stretch limit, to prevent over stretching. The non-woven fiber layer(s) and/or the scrim layer form suitable loops for a hook and loop fastening system. The scrim layer in some embodiments is employed to make the composite finger tearable. The melt blown adhesive layer, nonwoven web layer and elastic layer form a breathable, porous elastic composite. Methods of manufacturing the composite are also disclosed.

Laminated composites

An adhesive blend is comprised of a hydrophilic pressure sensitive adhesive comprising the polymerization product of (a) about 15 to about 85 parts by weight of an (meth)acrylate ester monomer wherein the (meth)acrylate ester monomer, when polymerized, has a glass transition temperature (T ) of less than about 10&deg; C.; (b) about 85 to about 15 parts by weight of a hydrophilic acidic comonomer; and (c) at least about 10 parts based on 100 parts of the sum of components (a)&plus;(b) of a non-reactive plasticizing agent and a hydrophobic pressure sensitive adhesive comprising an elastomer or thermoplastic elastomer including styrene block copolymers (e.g., linear, radial, tapered, star) consisting of copolymerized styrene and isoprene, butadiene or ethylene-butylene; polyisoprene; polybutadiene; polyisobutylene; butyl rubber; styrene-butadiepe rubber; natural rubber; and poly-&agr;-olefins (e.g., polyhexene, polyoctene and propylene-hexene).

Adhesive blends comprising hydrophilic and hydrophobic pressure sensitive adhesives

A die apparatus, a method of using the die apparatus to produce co-extruded polymeric articles, and co-extruded polymeric articles produced using the die apparatus and method are disclosed. The die apparatus includes a hollow vane configured to extrude a material into a chamber within the die, thereby producing a co-extruded web. The co-extruded web has a plurality of distinct, discontinuous phases in the cross-web direction, the phases having a uniform width as shown by a coefficient of variation of less than 8 percent for, any three consecutive phases. The phases are substantially continuous down-web and are surrounded by a matrix having two or more layers.

Polymeric articles having embedded phases

The invention provides a finger-tearable laminate composite that is suitable for use in adhesive tapes. The composite includes a nonwoven fiber web layer, a scrim layer and a binder coated throughtout both layers. The laminate composite is readily torn by hand in both the machine direction and the cross direction.

Hand-tearable tape

An adhesive tape is provided which comprises a woven cloth, a polymer embedded into the cloth so as to cause the warp and weft fibers of the cloth to bond together at their overlapping points but not to completely encase the fibers, and a pressure sensitive adhesive coated onto at least a portion of the polymer, wherein the adhesive tape is hand tearable in the down-web and in the cross-web direction. A method of manufacturing such a tape is also provided.

A method of making azlactone-functional homopolymers by bulk homopolymerization is disclosed, optionally also concurrent or sequential blending of a thermoplastic polymer.
