A stud panel and method of making a stud panel where interior sheathing may be a temporary piece of transparent plastic or a permanent panel of sheet rock so as to retain insulation in place and minimize scarfing. The stud panel may include studs having through holes extending in a length direction of the stud panel such that insulation in adjacent inner regions separated by such studs interlock with each other and contribute to a structural integrity of the stud panel. The stud panel may include a space between inner studs and one of the exterior and interior sheathing so as to provide a thermal and sound break between the exterior and inner sheathing so as to minimize heat, air and sound transfer between the exterior and interior sheathing. A method of making the stud panel is further disclosed, where such a method may include the step of incrementally introducing insulation from a closed end of an inner region to an open end of an inner region and may further include the step of automatically introducing insulation into the inner regions of the stud panel.

Insulated stud panel and method of making such

A soffit for a shelter having a roof overhang and a wall structure. The soffit extends between the wall structure and the roof overhang and includes an I-joist, wherein the I-joist has an elongate web with a pair of opposing elongate edges and a pair of flanges on each of the elongate edges. One of the flanges is engaged to the wall structure of the shelter and travels along at least a portion of a perimeter of the wall structure, and the other flange is engaged to a portion of the roof overhang and follows the travel of the flange engaged to the wall structure.

Organic I-beam soffit

A tensioned structure such as a house is disclosed. The house includes at least one wall panel placed under tension by bending the wall panel from a flat form to a curved form. The tension provides rigidity and thus strength to the wall panel. In a preferred form, the house includes two tensioned wall panels with the concave faces of the wall panels confronting each other such that a generally circular residential house is formed. A counter to oppose the tension engages the wall panels. The counter may include a roof or rafter support network, a portion of the floor or floor support, the wall panels themselves where the end edges of the wall panels are engaged to each other, or stainless steel straps running about the wall panels. The wall panel may be include material such as oriented strand board, steel, cement, plastic, or organic material such as grass. Further disclosed are methods for constructing the house and for bending without breaking material such as oriented strand board where the material is bent from a flat form to a curved form to place the material under tension so as to provide rigidity and strength to the structure having the tensioned sheet of material.

Residential homes having tensioned curved wall panels

An integral and structural wall panel for a generally studless house where the wall panel is in effect the stud (instead of a two inch by four inch piece of dimensional lumber being the stud) and where the wall panel is a vapor barrier (instead of the polyethylene sheet being the vapor barrier). The wall panel runs integrally, or as generally one-piece, from end to end of an exterior wall, from the top to bottom of an exterior wall, and from face to face of the exterior wall, thereby directly transmitting load from end to end, top to bottom, and from face to face and thereby minimizing joints where vapor leakage may occur. The wall panel is generally impervious to water vapor even though formed of an organic material such as wood, preferably oriented strand board, rendering a polyethylene or metallic water vapor barrier optional. Embodiments of the invention include a) a wall panel (about {fraction (7/16)} inches or one-half inch thick) that includes a support network on each face of the wall panel (with the support network on each face having a thickness of about {fraction (7/16)} inches or about one-half inch), b) a one-piece sandwich wall panel without a support network and being at least 1.3 inches thick, and c) an integral wall panel without a support network and being at least 1.3 inches thick.

House with structural water vapor barrier

An adjustable rafter that includes a main rafter having an inner end portion and an outer end portion. The outer end portion is adjacent to a wall of a structure. The main rafter defines a longitudinal direction. A rafter tail slideably engages the outer end portion of the main rafter, and the rafter tail is slideable in the longitudinal direction to a position relative to the outer end portion whereby the rafter tail may be laterally aligned with a plurality of other rafter tails.

Wall partitions for prefabricated structures. The wall partitions engage receivers formed in beams of the base of the structure. The prefabricated wall partitions are slidingly engaged in the receivers of the beams and in receivers formed in adjacent wall partitions. The prefabricated interlocking or interengaging wall partitions form structural posts for the shelter. Rafters are engaged on the structural posts. Some of the interlocking wall partitions include female receivers at both of their ends for receiving other prefabricated wall partitions. Some of the prefabricated wall partitions have female receivers on one end and a male member on the other end for mating to each other. Position locators are mounted on the prefabricated wall partitions to space the wall partitions relative to each other. Prefabricated headers may extend over openings and include tongues and receivers for engaging the prefabricated wall partitions. The partitions and headers may form openings in the shelter and such partitions and headers may form receivers or channels about three or all sides of the opening. Such channels may be used, for example, for electrical wiring. The monolithic shelter further includes frame or trim interlocking arrangements about openings in the shelter. A monolithic connection between the wall partitions and roof structure includes wedges, connection hardware, and in some instances tie-in plates.

Prefabricated wall partition arrangement

An adjustable foundation wall arrangement having first and second foundation walls running generally parallel to each other and a third foundation wall being disposed between the first and second foundation walls. The first and second foundation walls are preferably prefabricated and the third foundation wall is prefabricated in two portions. On site, one of the third foundation wall portions is aligned to the first foundation wall and the other of the third foundation wall portions is aligned to the second foundation wall. This alignment typically leaves a small space between the inner ends of the third foundation wall portions. This small space, preformed in the shape of a receptor for a key stud, is at least partially filled by the key stud to tie the third foundation wall portions to each other. Alternatively, or preferably in combination with the key stud, a cap tie connects the third foundation wall portions to each other. The cap tie includes two ends, and each end abuts a cap plate, one of which in turn connects to the first foundation wall and the other of which connects to the second foundation wall.

Adjustable foundation wall arrangement

A box beam incorporating an I-joist. A set of such box beams makes up a portion of the base for a shelter and provide receivers in which prefabricated wall partitions are slidingly engaged. The I-joist or I-beam includes an elongate web, two opposite flanges, and at least a first outer elongate plate member which runs parallel to the web and is fixed to and between faces of the flanges. With a single outer plate member extending beyond the upper flange, an L-shaped receiver is formed for receiving outer wall partitions which may be placed into such receiver from a horizontal direction, without manipulating the wall partition up and over and down into the receiver. With a pair of outer plate members extending beyond the upper flange, a channel receiver is formed. I-beam structures having the channel receiver are placed in the interior of the base for interior wall partitions. The I-beams support a floor and such outer and inner wall partitions which may interlock with each other.

The invention of rapidly erectable housing units providing a number of properly shaped and interfitting wall sections. Beside the wall sections the units include interlocking or laid-uproofing applied to truss rafters. interlock to the erected walls. The wall sections are provided with structural base plates and headers for interlocking the walls into sturdy non-rackable condition to maintain the stability of the unit. The interfit of the wall sections may be in several forms such as matching, slotted grooves to afford sliding connection between sections and may also include mortise and tenon arrangements on the ends of sections with the tenon passing through the mortised area for the attachment of a locking element on the extending end of the tenon as well as the mortise position. The mortise and tenon arrangements, particularly at corner areas of the unit may include a plurality of interfitting elements rather than a single arrangement which will allow for more secure joining of the sections. The individual wall sections will include door and window openings which again afford slideable connective assembly and into which standard window and door units may be introduce. The units includes the conceept of using on site material for manufacture of all elements.

Rapidly erectable housing units

A portable dance floor includes a plurality of pie-shaped platform segments having matingly engageable peripheral edges. The platform segments are made from a sturdy, lightweight honeycomb construction. A unique connecting hub couples the apexes of a plurality of platform segments together, and an adjustable web extends around the outer periphery of the combined platform segments. A key way and supporting key are provided along the adjoining edges of adjacent platform segments. Each of the segments may be supported by one or more adjustable support legs.

A honeycomb panel manufacturing system and method comprises expansion tables, a curing chamber, adhesive application table, and a pressing station for bonding face sheets to honeycomb panels. The method of manufacture comprises expanding honeycomb material, curing expanded panels, and pressing face sheets onto opposite sides of cured panels.
