Hydrostatic pressure, which builds up from gravity and forces water into a basement through the floor or lower walls, is relieved by sensing the water under the floor and pumping out the water to a drain or area away from the house. Thus, the water is prevented from ever entering the basement, and the basement remains dry. The invention senses and removes water simply by means of tubing and sensing wires inserted through one or more small holes which are easily drilled in an existing basement floor, for example by using an impulse drill with a carbide tipped bit. Both the sensing of the water level and the pumping out of the sub-floor water are accomplished through these small holes drilled through the basement floor in trouble areas, eliminating the need for gutters, channels or sumps.

Automatic sub-floor pumping system

An automatic sub-floor pumping system, having a controller box, sensor wires, suction hose and pump. Two or three sensor probes are used--the lowest, or ground, probe can be omitted, and the circuit referenced to earth or wiring ground. The pump evacuates water from beneath the basement floor through a hose inserted into a small hole drilled into the basement floor. The sensor probes can be simply wires with the last 1/8' to 1/2' bared, attached to the outside of the pump suction hose at two locations an inch or two apart. The hose, with wires attached, is inserted down the one-inch evacuation hole bored through the floor. The control uses a very low current on the wires, which are negative relative to ground so as to be cathodically protected from corrosion. An optional sensing circuit monitors lower probe wire voltage and warns of possible corrosion effects.

An instrument verification system which causes the instrument needles to 'bob' periodically--a sharp momentary deflection from center. If desired, the flags can also be 'dipped' at the same time, verifying their operation as well. The pilot can easily distinguish the momentary deflection of the needles from the more gradual changes caused by deviation from true course, and is assured that the centered needles mean perfect flying and not instrument failure.

Operation verification system and method for navigational instruments

A cap receiving apparatus having a member with a generally flat back surface. The member has a slot extending through the thickness of the member and having a generally elliptical configuration. The slot is angled through the thickness of the member such that the slot is further from the back surface at a top of the member than at the bottom of the member. The slot is suitable for receipt of a bill of a cap. The member has a generally elliptical outer surface extending from the flat back surface in generally parallel relation to the elliptical slot. A panel is fastened to the back surface of the member such that the member extends outwardly perpendicularly to the panel. A second member may be fastened to the panel in parallel relation to the first member and in alignment to the first member.

Cap receiving apparatus

A clock-driven pulse source is used to apply repetitive short pulses to the squelch control point of the squelch circuitry of a radio receiver to deactivate momentarily the squelch circuitry at regular intervals (FIGS. 2B, and 2D). The repetitive short pulses being applied to the active squelch circuitry of a radio receiver to deactivate it momentarily at regular intervals may, according to the present invention, be applied directly or through reactive coupling to the antenna associated with the radio receiver (FIGS. 2M and 2N). This provides periodic noise bursts of 'de-squelch' pulses on an otherwise silent radio in order to inform the radio operator that the radio is live and that the volume is adequate. A light may also be connected to the system to provide a second, visual, indicator of the operational status of the radio. This radio receiver operational checking system may also be utilized where there are two or more radios in use with a common audio headphone/speaker line, by providing an additional clock-driven pulse source for each radio in use. The system may be arranged so that the status of individual radios may be quickly ascertained by sound and/or by light indicators.

Radio receiver operational checking method and system including reactive

A tape switch has a first insulating cover strip and a second insulating cover strip. A first conductive strip is bonded to the first cover strip and these combined strips have a corrugated wave form at mid-portion where joined. First and second spacer strips run parallel to each other and are mounted between the first and second cover strips. A second conductive strip is bonded to the second cover strip between the first and second spacer strips, whereby when the tape switch is pressed, contact is made between the first and second conductive strips. In a second embodiment the first cover strip has a formed central raised portion to give separation which eliminates need for additional parallel separator stays.

Venting means for solar collectors of the air flow type. An upper manifold has a gap formed by a top extending over and spaced above the upper end of the collector. An elongated inflatable tube is mounted in the gap, so that when the elastic tube is inflated it seals the collector from the outside air. Similarly, the lower edge of the collector may be closed off with this arrangement. The venting arrangement provides cold weather and warm weather modes of operation.

Venting means for solar collectors

A hot roof solar collector. A narrow modular matrix structure having a web or plate portion and lower and upper support rails connected to the web portion. These narrow modules are placed side by side adjacently on an insulating surface. A clear sheet member is mounted on the upper support rails. The space between the clear sheet and the web form a trap whereby when the collector surface is struck by sunlight, the matrix web heats up and the air in the passage below the matrix web will be heated. Hot air will flow up the passage if it is inclined, and it may be drawn into the building by a fan.

Solar collector means

A sealable wafer switch which is normally closed in relaxed position but which opens when squeezed. A lower stiff plate. A first curved conductive member mounted on the lower plate with the curvature extending in the upward direction. An insulating plate mounted on the lower curved plate the insulating plate having a central aperture. A second curved contact member mounted on the insulating plate and having its curvature extending in the downward direction with axis perpendicular to the other curved member. The first and second conductive members being in contact through the aperture when they are in relaxed position. An upper stiff plate mounted on the second curved contact member whereby when the upper and lower stiff plates are squeezed together the contact is broken.

Normally closed wafer switch

Self adhering tape switch or ribbon switch assembly is provided including a tape switch strip. A layer of deformable material bonds to the underside of said tape switch. A layer of pressure sensitive adhesive is applied to the underside of the deformable material layer. A removable strip of paper adheres to the underside of the pressure sensitive adhesive. It is notched to permit coiling.
