Disclosed are mono-layer or multi-layer films, sheets, or coatings wherein at least on layer comprises a fringed surface microstructure (1), a process for making these items and uses thereof. Further disclosed are articles of manufacture comprising such film, sheet, or coating.

Fringed surface structures obtainable in a compression molding process

Structures of the present invention contain a non-oriented multilayer film with a polyolefin core having 40 weight-percent or less homogeneous ethylene/alpha-olefin, a modified polyolefin tie layer on each side of the core, and an adhesive layer on at least one tie layer. The adhesive layer contains a polar-modified polyolefin and a polyester, copolyester, or polyester/copolyester blend. The multilayer film has utility as a protective coating for metal surfaces.

Structures containing a non-oriented multilayer film with a polyolefin core

Flexible, halogen-free films, both multilayer films and monolayer films, can replace polyvinyl chloride films in applications requiring high speed welding by high frequency radiation. The monolayer films result from a blend of a non-polar olefin polymer and a polar olefin polymer that contains carbon monoxide. The multilayer films have like that of the monolayer films, but located so as to promote high frequency sealing. Products made from such films are particularly well suited for medical device applications.

Flexible, halogen-free, radio-frequency sealable films

Flexible, halogen-free, high frequency-sealable films fabricated from a blend of a copolyamide and a polyolefin having a carboxylic acid or carboxylic acid anhydride functionality have sufficient copolyamide to yield a DLF of at least 0.05 at a frequency of 27 megahertz and serve as effective substitutes for flexible polyvinyl chloride films. The films may be mono-layer films or multi-layer films, especially where the high frequency-sealable films serve as outer or skin layers in multi-layer films. Products made from such monolayer and multi-layer films find utility in a number of applications, especially for medical device applications.

Polyolefin/copolyamide RF active adhesive film

A multilayer film useful for making plastic adhesive labels for glass substrates such as glass bottles. The multilayer films contain a base layer, an adhesive layer, and optionally an intermediate layer to improve interlayer bonding between the base layer and the adhesive layer. The adhesive layer comprises a heat-activated thermoplastic adhesive that is not tacky at room temperature. Films of the present invention are sufficiently non blocking at room temperature so as to not require the use of a separate release liner. The film can be utilized in conventional graphics printing operations and made into labels. Labels made from films of the present invention can be thermally adhered to glass substrates and exhibit sufficient adhesion to glass substrates to withstand washing/rinsing, filling, and pasteurization processes utilized in the bottling industry.

Plastic heat-activated adhesive labels

A multilayer film useful for making plastic adhesive labels for glass substrates such as glass bottles. The multilayer films contain a base layer, an adhesive layer, and optionally an intermediate layer to improve interlayer bonding between the base layer and the adhesive layer. The adhesive layer comprises a terpolymer of ethylene, 3-10 weight percent of an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid (e.g. acrylic acid or methyacrylic acid), and 3-25 weight percent of an unsaturated ester (e.g., methyl, ethyl, or n-butyl acrylate or methacrylate). The base layer preferably comprises oriented polypropylene or oriented polyester, but may also comprise high density polyethylene or PETG. The multilayer film can be utilized in conventional graphics printing operations and do not require the use of a separate release liner. Labels made from films of the present invention exhibit sufficient adhesion to glass substrates to withstand washing/rinsing, filling, and pasteurization processes utilized in the bottling industry.

Plastic adhesive labels for glass substrates

Disclosed is a laminated foam insulation board having enhanced strength and resistance to bending and breaking. The board comprises a panel of an insulating plastic foam material and a thermoplastic facer film adhered to opposite surfaces of the panel. The facer films have an ultimate elongation of less than 200 percent in both machine and transverse directions, a yield tensile strength of at least 7,000 pounds per square inch (48,400 kilopascals) in both machine and transverse directions, and a 1 percent secant modulus of at least 200,000 pounds per square inch (1,380 megapascals) in both machine and transverse directions. The degree of adhesion is about 100 grams per inch or more (about 39.4 grams per centimeter or more) between the facer film and the foam panel.

A laminated weatherable film-capped siding structure with improved dimensional stability and having a reduced incidence of oil canning. A plastic container closure, such as a bottle cap liner or tamper evident seal, is formed from a coextruded multilayer foamed film. The coextruded multilayer foamed film has at least one solid film layer of a first polyolefin blend containing linear low density polyethylene, low density polyethylene, and, optionally high density polyethylene, and at least one foamed layer of a second polyolefin blend containing linear low density polyethylene, low density polyethylene, and optionally ethylene vinyl acetate. The multilayer foamed film may be coextruded using a blown film or cast film extrusion process under defined conditions. the coextruded multilayer foamed film may be laminated to other materials such as polyester film, thermoplastic adhesive films or metallic films and used as a plastic container closure, or may be applied as a liner to a plastic bottle cap.

A flexible weather resistant film particularly adapted for use as a weatherable surface coating by lamination to a substrate comprising a weather resistant layer of a blend of a vinyl chloride polymer, an interpolymer of ethylene and at least one carboxylic acid or ester thereof containing ethylenic unsaturation, and chlorinated polyethylene, an adhesive layer for adhesion of the film to a substrate comprising an interpolymer of ethylene and acrylic or methacrylic acid and interposed between the weatherable layer and the adhesive layer, an interlayer comprising a copolymer of ethylene and vinyl acetate.

Weatherable three layer films

A flexible weather resistant film comprising a weather resistant layer of a blend of a vinyl chloride polymer and chlorinated polyethylene and a second layer comprising a normally solid thermoplastic adhesive. Improved performance is obtained when the first layer additionally comprises an interpolymer of ethylene and at least one carboxylic acid or ester thereof containing ethylenic unsaturation.
