A system and method for simultaneously acquiring PET and MR data from a subject of interest with a hybrid PET-MR scanner includes monitoring transmission times of RF and gradient coils of the MR equipment and blanking segments of the PET data stream accordingly. By excluding PET data acquired during active MR transmissions, the remaining PET data used for image reconstruction will provide improved PET image quality.

Exclusion of compromised PET data during simultaneous PET-MR acquisition

A system and method for a hardware configuration and interfacing in a component-based environment for a medical imaging system is disclosed. Specifically, the invention directed to software architecture for the control of medical imaging system hardware is disclosed. The architecture can be logically divided into four elements: a system hardware control to provide system hardware availability information and control, a system configuration control to provide hardware constraint information, an application prescription control to identify hardware capabilities requested by a user-selected application and configure hardware settings for the system hardware, and an application hardware control to enable the application to exert control over the system hardware during execution. The architecture allows application software to be independent from hardware control software.

Hardware configuration and interfacing in a component-based environment for a medical scanner

An MR system correlates MR images with acquired physiological data. MR image data and physiological data is acquired through two independent pipelines. Both pipelines range from analog to digital conversion to image or data display. The pipelines are synchronized by triggers calculated from data contained in the physiological pipeline which are then used to trigger the acquisition of data in the MR image pipeline. Another embodiment includes time synchronization of a distributed acquisition and processing system having the ability to correlate physiological and MR data using a common time base and the ability to selectively store physiological data. Simplified network time protocol is used to synchronize timers and a separate data conduit is used for sending physiological data to the data store process. This supports different modes of synchronization between acquisition and the physiological signal.

A medical imaging system includes a workstation for receiving operator inputs that prescribe a scan and a plurality of servers which control the acquisition of image data and the reconstruction of prescribed images. Tag routers in the workstation and each server enable data in the form of tagged data objects to be exchanged during performance of a scan.
