Methods, systems, and devices are provided for validating player entitlement to a complimentary award or service (such as a complementary beverage), such as in a gaming establishment, and/or facilitating the patron's direct payment for such. A validation module at a gaming machine may indicate an award of a free drink or other comp to a player based upon meeting certain criteria, such as levels of wagering. A player might alternately purchase voucher at a gaming machine or kiosk and then use the voucher as payment for the drink.

An embodiment of the invention includes an RF fob with an embedded identifier. The fob transmits a signal that is received by one of a plurality of games which recognizes the identifier and thus identifies the player who holds the fob. Several discrete remote gaming locations are connected to a central location where player information is stored and maintained. When a player scans his fob at a game at any remote location connected to the central location, the identifier is transmitted to the central location and player information is transmitted to the game. The player can begin play, accumulating points on his/her account reflective of his or her gaming activity. The player can also redeem points for cash at the game itself without third-party assistance.

Player tracking system

A tournament gaming system is disclosed including one or more gaming machines programmed for play of at least one tournament game. A plurality of gaming machines may be linked for tournament play, as through a host computer. Qualification for tournament play may be, at least in part, effectuated through participation in one or more primary games at a gaming machine programmed for tournament play. Game play on at least some of the participating games is tracked and displayed during the tournament, which ends after a player of one of the games achieves predetermined results.
