Provided is a method for connecting coiled tubing strings, as well as a flexible stabbing snake. In one aspect, the method for connecting coiled tubing strings includes lowering a downhole end of a first coiled tubing string within a wellbore, and coupling an uphole end of the first coiled tubing string to a downhole end of a second coiled tubing string at a location between a coiled tubing injector and the wellbore to form a combined coiled tubing string. In at least one aspect, the method further includes lowering the combined coiled tubing string within the wellbore.

Workflow process for connecting multiple coiled tubing strings

A downhole tool includes a hydraulically operated actuation device to actuate the downhole tool and a control system that regulates flow of hydraulic fluid to the actuation device. The control system includes a pilot module and a power module. The power module has a first solenoid valve and a second solenoid valve fluidly coupled to a pressure source and a fluid return. The power module is fluidly coupled to the actuation device at an output line and a power line. A first power module check valve is arranged in the power line, a second power module check valve is arranged in a control pressure return line fluidly coupled to the fluid return, a first input communicates with the first solenoid valve, and a second input communicates with the second solenoid valve. A pilot-operated check valve is actuatable in response to a pilot signal to drain hydraulic fluid from the power module.

Modular electro-hydraulic downhole control system

A wellbore servicing system including a work string and a valve tool defining an flowbore, wherein the valve tool is transitionable from a first mode to a second mode, from the second mode to a third mode, and from the third mode to a fourth mode, wherein the valve tool transitions from the first mode to the second mode upon an application of pressure to the flowbore of at least a threshold pressure, wherein the valve tool transitions from the second mode to the third mode upon a dissipation of pressure from the flowbore to not more than the threshold pressure, and wherein, in the first mode, the valve tool allows fluid communication via the flowbore in a first direction and disallows fluid communication in a second direction. Further, in the second, and third modes, the valve tool allows fluid communication in both the first and second directions.

Downhole valve assembly and methods of using the same

Embodiments of the hybrid tool string include coiled tubing and jointed tubing, as well as a means typically located at the connection of the coiled and jointed tubing for sealing the fluid flowpath through the bore of the hybrid tool string. Embodiments of the hybrid tool string may use a pressure-activated valve tool attached in series between the coiled tubing and the jointed tubing, which allows for sealing of the bore by application of pressure. Embodiments of the pressure-activated valve tool may use a flapper in conjunction with a sleeve to seal the bore. The novel hybrid tool string may be used to service a well.

A wellbore servicing apparatus, comprising a first mandrel movable longitudinally along a central axis and rotatable about the central axis, an orienting member configured to selectively interfere with movement of the first mandrel along the central axis, and a second mandrel connected to the first mandrel and configured to rotate about the central axis when the first mandrel rotates about the central axis. A method of orienting a wellbore servicing tool, comprising connecting an orienting tool to the wellbore servicing tool, identifying a predetermined direction, increasing a pressure within the orienting tool, rotating a portion of the orienting tool in response to the increase in pressure within the orienting tool, and rotating the wellbore servicing tool in response to the rotating of the portion of the orienting tool.

Apparatus and method for orienting a wellbore servicing tool

A spoolable connector which connects two opposing sections of coil tubing so as to transmit load between one section of coil tubing and another section of coil tubing. The spoolable connector has opposing non-circular grooves into which portions of the sections of coil tubing are deformed so as to create the torque transmitting connection between the spoolable connector and sections of coil tubing. The spoolable connector also includes a plurality of parallel radial slots on each opposing end to enhance bending of the connector at the ends as well as a plurality of longitudinal slots at each end to accommodate the weld seam line in the coil tubing. Seals may be installed as a sleeve which in use fits over the mid-section of the connector.

Spoolable connector

A connector which joins two opposing sections of coil tubing or coil tubing to coil tubing tools so as to enable torque applied from one section to be transmitted to the other section is provided. The connector employs varying width and depth grooves into which portions of the sections of coil tubing are deformed so as to create the torque transmitting connection between the connector and sections of coil tubing. Each of the grooves have a narrow width portion and a wide width portion and corresponding shallow depth and deep depth portion. The narrow width portion of one of the grooves is approximately 180&#xb0; out of phase from the narrow width portion of the other varying width groove.

Connector having offset radius grooves

An apparatus and method is provided for locating joints in coiled tubing operations. The apparatus is adapted for running into a well on coiled tubing and for use during reverse circulating and fracturing operations. The apparatus having a central passageway for fluids, a collar locator module, a one-way valve coupled to the central passageway to allow for the flow of fluids in one direction but not the other, a port coupled to the central passageway to allow fluids to exit when the one-way valve is functioning, a movable cover module to cover the port to build up pressure in the central passageway, and a flow diverting module for permanently diverting the flow of fluids from the port to the central passageway.

Apparatus and method for locating joints in coiled tubing operations

A wireless coiled tubing joint locator for locating joints or collars in a production tubing string. An electromagnetic coil assembly or giant magnetoresistive digital field sensor senses the increased mass of a pipe joint, and provides a signal to an electric circuit which generates a signal received by a pilot solenoid valve. The solenoid valve momentarily opens a pilot passageway which activates a piston to close a circulation port in the joint locator, resulting in an increase in a surface pressure reading observable by the operator. In one embodiment, a rupture disk is provided so that pressure cannot be applied to any downhole tool below the joint locator prematurely. A seat sleeve prevents premature communication of fluid to the rupture disk but can be opened by dropping a ball into the joint locator. A second embodiment may be used for either logging or washing operations or both. The electronic circuit can provide a selected one of a plurality of time delays. A fixed test period in the circuit delays activation of the time delay so that the joint locator may be tested before it is run into the well. The electric circuit and power supply are provided in a removable case.

Wireless coiled tubing joint locator

A wireless coiled tubing joint locator for locating joints or collars in a production tubing string. The joint locator is adapted for running into a well on coiled tubing, and other downhole tools may be connectable to the joint locator. An electromagnetic coil assembly senses the increased mass of a pipe joint, and provides a signal to an electric circuit which generates a momentary electric output signal received by a pilot solenoid valve. The solenoid valve momentarily opens a pilot passageway which activates a piston to close a circulation port in the joint locator. This closing of the circulation point results in an increase in a surface pressure reading observable by the operator. A rupture disk is provided so that pressure cannot be applied to any downhole tool below the joint locator prematurely, and a seat sleeve is provided to prevent premature communication of fluid to the rupture disk but can be opened at any time by dropping a ball into the joint locator. The electronic circuit can be configured to provide a selected one of a plurality of time delays. A fixed test period is also provided in the circuit which delays activation of the time delay so that the joint locator may be tested before it is run into the well. The electric circuit and power supply are provided in a removable case for easy replacement and reconfiguration.

A heavy-duty logging and perforating cablehead for coiled tubing. The cablehead includes an upper and lower housing which are shearably connected by shear pins. An actuating piston is slidably disposed in the housing. When the piston is in a running position, the piston holds a lug in locking engagement with the upper and lower housings such that the shear pins cannot be sheared. When the piston is moved to a releasing position, the lugs are released so that the upper and lower housings may be separated, thereby shearing the shear pins. Actuation of the piston is accomplished by pumping fluid down the coiled tubing and through a flow path in the cablehead and by applying pressure to the piston.
