A system and method to detect the presence of bed bugs are disclosed. A system detecting the presence of bed bugs comprises an aptamer solution that includes a base ligand, a fluorophore ligand that includes at least one fluorophore, and a quencher ligand that includes at least one quencher, a liquid application tool, and a fluorescent light source. A method of detecting the presence of bed bugs, comprising providing a liquid application tool that carries an aptamer solution, applying the aptamer solution to a target area, shining fluorescent light on the target area, and observing the target area under the fluorescent light. If there are light spots under the fluorescent light, bed bugs have been present.

System and method for identifying the presence of insects

The present disclosure generally pertains to systems and methods for drug compliance monitoring. A drug compliance monitoring system in accordance with one exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure comprises a portable drug containment unit, which has a drug container, such as a pill bottle, for holding prescription or non-prescription drugs. The drug containment unit also comprises at least one sensor and control logic. The sensor is configured to automatically sense a parameter indicating when a drug, such as one or more pills or an amount of liquid, has been or is about to be removed from the drug container. The system, based on the sensor, automatically estimates and tracks drug consumption and provides a patient with reminders when a dosage is currently due. If the patient deviates from an expected drug regime, the system automatically senses this event and provides a notification to the patient or caregiver. In addition, the system stores a usage history indicating the approximate time and amount of each sensed dosage.

Systems and methods for drug compliance monitoring

A system and method for synchronizing and selectively addressing multiple receivers in a wireless communication system includes a spread spectrum transmitter and one or more spread spectrum receivers. The transmitter transmits a signal having an observable parameter which is pseudo-randomly varied. The receiver measures the relative times between recurrences of a selected value of the observable parameter being pseudo-randomly varied, and determines an initial state of the transmitter based upon the measured relative times. The receiver then synchronizes itself to the estimated current state of the transmitter using the determined initial state as a starting reference. In a frequency hopping embodiment, the spread spectrum transmitter comprises a feedback shift register, and transmits a sequence of pseudo-randomly hopped frequencies determined by the shift register. A receiver is tuned to one of the hopping frequencies, measures the relative times of arrival between consecutive transmissions, and determines the initial code word in the transmitter feedback shift register from the measured relative times of arrival by constructing and solving a set of linear equations. The receiver then matches comprises its feedback shift register to the initial code word, adjusted by an amount of time elapsed during the synchronization process. Similar techniques may also be applied both to direct sequence spread spectrum communication systems.

Method and system for synchronizing and selectively addressing multiple receivers in a wireless, spread spectrum communication system

A spread spectrum transmitter for generating a plurality of spread spectrum codes comprises a shift register having a plurality of stages, with a plurality of tap sets connected to selected ones of said stages. Each tap set defines a different spread spectrum code, which may be maximal or non-maximal. Outputs from the tap sets are combined using exclusive-OR gates and fed back to through a table of logic gates to the input of the shift register. A serial data register is loaded from a data stream and clocked periodically into a parallel data register. The parallel data register corresponds to a data symbol and is connected to the table, whereby one of the spread spectrum codes at a time is selected. A code portion of the spread spectrum code up to a designated length is generated for each data symbol. More than one code portion may be simultaneously sent using offset quadrature phase shift keying. A receiver may detect the code portion or code portions sent by delaying the received signal and combining it with a plurality of delayed versions thereof, the delay period for each delayed version corresponding to the tap locations in the tap set of the transmitter shift register.

Spread spectrum transmitter and communications system using multiple

A system for despreading and/or demodulating spread spectrum codes is provided. A data signal is encoded using an M-ary transmission technique, wherein predefined symbol codes are associated with a particular series of data bits. A receiver comprises a plurality of delay elements or a shift register with a plurality of taps configured to recognize one or more the predetermined symbol codes. Delayed representations of the received signal are generated and combined to produce a known output sequence, such as a string of consecutive one or consecutive zeroes, when a recognizable spread spectrum code is received. The receiver shift register may be preloaded such that recognition may occur starting with the first received chip. More than one set of taps may be coupled to the same shift register, so that more than one of the M spreading codes may be recognized by the same shift register. A received set of chips may be identified with a code sequence that has a minimal cross-correlation distance or Hamming distance, whereby a received code sequence with imperfect correlation may be recognized as corresponding to a defined symbol. More than one symbol may be simultaneously transmitted using quadrature phase modulation or like techniques, and recognized by the receiver.

Method and apparatus for despreading spread spectrum signals

A method for communicating using a plurality of spread spectrum codes. A plurality of spreading codes are generated by use of one or more linear feedback shift registers configured with feedback taps. The spreading codes may be maximal or non-maximal. A plurality of code portions are selected, one from each of the spreading codes. The code portions each have the same length and are selected for low cross-correlation and favorable auto-correlation and spectral properties. Each of the code portions is associated with a data symbol representing a unique group of data bits. An input data stream is divided into groups of data bits and, in response thereto, the code portion associated with each group of data bits is transmitted. At the receiver, the transmitted signal is captured in one or more receive shift registers. The receive shift register or registers have tap locations matching the tap locations of the transmitter, and simultaneously detect for each code portion by combining the incoming signal with each of the taps for a given code portion. When a code portion is recognized, a sequence of consecutive ones is output. More than one code portion may be sent and received using offset quadrature phase shift keyed modulation.
