A method of accounting for policy decision in access requests is disclosed. The method includes receiving a pre-authentication request for a call and applying at least one policy to determine a policy decision for the request. At least one message is then transmitted to indicate a manner in which the call is resolved and the policy decision.

Accounting for policy enforcement decisions in radius systems

A method and system to control call admissions into data networks is disclosed. A network device has a port to receive a pre-authentication request associated with a call and a status memory to store system status information. A processor in the device is configured to determine if the pre-authentication request can be granted based upon the system status information. The method receives a pre-authentication request associated with a call and accesses system status information. The method then determines if the request can be granted.

Policy system throttling and load balancing

This disclosure provides a method and apparatus for normalizing service level agreements across entire networks. By utilizing a new parameter called the virtual call count, a wholesale network provider can monitor a variety of related network status indications and provide to their customers increased insight into the nature of the service level rejections that they experience. Existing service level agreement processors can be equipped with the additional functionality of calculating the virtual call count to form an apparatus for normalizing service level agreements.

Methods and devices for querying any-service-any-port policy systems. A method for a network device to route calls using policy considerations receives a call request associated with a call and queries a policy system to determine if the network can accept the call. A message is then generated that includes a response to the request.

Querying ASAP policy systems

A method and device to expedite port release. The method includes receiving a call setup request for a port and then determining the current state of the port. If the current state of the port is active, a release message is transmitted to an entity occupying the port. In an embodiment, the call setup request is granted. In another embodiment, an active port cache is updated to reflect the new entity occupying the port.

Expediting port release in distributed networks

A network device and method of operation. The network device receives a call setup request, identifies the appropriate resource server for that call and transmits it to a resource server that then authorizes or does not authorize the call associated with the setup request. The authorization process allows enforcement of voice and dial agreements by authorizing those calls within a particular agreement and denying call setup requests for those that violate the agreements.

Voice and dial service level agreement enforcement on universal gateway

A network device. The network device includes a gateway switch to receive an incoming call and to identify a source of the call. A parser then receives a request associated with the incoming call and produces a parsed request. A message parser within the parser receives the request depending upon the source of the call. A policy switch then receives the parsed message and transmits the request to a policy processor based upon the parsed message.

Resource and AAA service device

A network device is disclosed. The network device comprises a port to allow reception of a TCAP query. A processor translates the TCAP query into a dial access request and a port allows transmission of the dial access request and to receive a call disposition message.

Port policy management for calls in a centralized call control packet network

A network device includes a port to connect the device to a policy system. The device includes a processor to trigger at least one call across the policy system, collect results of policy system operations, and compare the results with expected outcomes to create a metric. The device may also include a memory to store the metric for future reference.

Service and policy system integrity monitor

A method for querying any-service-any-port policy systems includes a method for a network device to route calls using policy considerations. The method receives a call request associated with a call and queries a policy system to determine if the network can accept the call. A message is then generated that includes a response to the request.

A network device and method for sharing resources in a network. The network device includes a port through which a shared resource request may be received. A processor accesses a store of the shared resource data to determine if the shared resource request is grantable. If the request is grantable, the network device may grant the request and then update the shared resource data.
