A compression garment apparatus for a body part of an human and/or animal having a flexible backing, attaching means, a segmented flex frame, and a shape memory alloy on the segmented flex frame. The shape memory alloy can be connected to two terminals on the frame forming a circuit. A controller can be connected to the terminals applying current to the shape memory alloy at defined intervals providing intermittent, sequenced, or continuous compression therapy.

A tissue engineering apparatus, device, or system can include a transmitter configured to transmit a signal to a receiver, a receiver configured to receive a signal from a transmitter, a holding structure configured to hold one or more mesenchymal stem cells (MSC), and a vibratory actuator in communication with the receiver and configured to generate a vibratory signal that is applied to the MSC.

A method to form a compression garment apparatus for a body part of a human and/or animal. The method includes forming a segmented flex frame and installing a shape memory alloy on struts of the segmented flex frame. The method further includes connecting the shape memory alloy to first and second terminals on the frame creating a mechanical and electrical connection. The method includes installing a controller that applies current to the shape memory alloy at intervals using and executing intermittent, sequenced, or continuous compression therapy using the controller by creating at least one heating phase causing the shape memory alloy to reach a target transition temperature to either lengthen or shorten and at least one cooling phase causing the length of the shape memory alloy at the target transition temperature to lengthen or shorten opposite of the length change caused by the heating phase.

A device, system and method is disclosed in which small volume blood samples are subjected to shear forces and shear stresses between two parallel planar surfaces to which linear motion trajectories are imparted. The formation of clots or coagulation of the sample is measured from dynamic mechanical coupling which occurs between the two parallel planar surfaces. Detection of the coagulation response can be achieved through optical probing or by measurement of physical effects of the blood sample binding to the planar surfaces, and restricting movement thereof.

A magnetic system for treating tissue using magnetic coils connected to a pulse generator is provided. The magnetic system can include a power supply, microcontroller, and magnetic coil pair. The magnetic system can be incorporated into garments, bedding, furniture, or the like. The microcontroller can produce square-wave logic pulses to form trapezoidal-wave pulse generator signals for transmission to the magnetic coil pair. The magnetic coil pair can form magnetic trapezoidal-wave pulses for treatment of tissue. A slew rate of the magnetic trapezoidal-wave pulses can be controlled in a range from twenty kilogauss/second to five megagauss/second.

Tissue engineering methods and biochamber apparatus are provided for making tissue grafts for implantation into a patient. The methods include applying a sustained low magnitude pressure gradient transmurally across a permeable scaffold material using a media containing cells, preferably microvascular epithelial cells, to be deposited on the scaffold for the production of tissue grafts, preferably vascular grafts, to promote accelerated adhesion and maturation of cells on the scaffold material.
