It is characterized in that the double reception circuit (29) which includes the responder, consists of two elements (20, 21) which, when the mobile body passes the monitoring location, generate two signals (31, 32) of an appreciably equivalent nature, and in that these elements (20, 21) are designed and connected with each other in such a way as to give opposite values to at least one of the characteristics of these signals (31, 32) which, when combined, form at least one resulting signal (R), at least one of the characteristics of which, at least at one fixed location (13) of the passage of the transmitter at right angles to the responder, changes in an abrupt fashion in accordance with a discernible amplitude variation from possible other variations of the characteristics considered in connection with the said resulting signal (R) and thus constitutes a particularly electric phenomenon hereinafter called top which, in the resulting signal (R), defines two distinct portions, each one of a certain length.

An anti-collision safety control for vehicles travelling on tracks; the control comprises two safety loops per vehicle, linked to two common loops in a central control station. Each vehicle loop comprises control circuits for determining the distance to the next preceding vehicle, for determining a safe stopping distance for the vehicle, and for stopping the vehicle if the distance to the preceding vehicle becomes smaller than the safe stopping distance or if there is a failure of a safety circuit. The distance control circuit comprises a detector for detecting reference points provided along the track, a counter for calculating the distance of a vehicle from a given zero location, and a delay circuit for converting this distance into a position signal timed to a synchronization pulse received by all vehicles. Position signals from all vehicles are transmitted to the central control and back to the vehicles; the distance to an immediately preceding vehicle is determined by comparing the position pulses.

A method and device for facilitating the movement of a number of moving bodies such as trains travelling behind each other in a closed circuit with all the necessary automatic functions such as safety precautions against collision and control of traffic, is arranged by providing an ideal circulation of imaginary moving bodies corresponding to the actual bodies and progressing regularly according to a pre-established programme, each actual moving body being constrained to remain, within limits behind its corresponding imaginary moving body taking into account possible braking requirements, and, in front of the imaginary moving body controlling the next actual moving body. Means are provided for stopping the imaginary moving bodies and consequently the actual moving bodies in the case of mishaps, all the functions being effected with simple passive reference marks located along the line and spaced apart in such a way that the time taken by imaginary moving bodies to cover the distance separating two successive reference marks is always a substantially constant time.
