A fused conductor includes a first conductor portion, a second conductor portion, and a fuse element in electrical communication with the first and second conductor portions via at least one dual metal wire, the fuse element protected by a glass body bonded chemically to the dual metal wire.

Electrical device with integrally fused conductor

The thin film, electrical device is an subminiature overvoltage circuit protection device in a surface mountable configuration for use in printed circuit board or thick film hybrid circuit technology. The surface mountable device (SMD) is designed to protect against electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage to electronic components. The circuit protection device comprises three material subassemblies. The first subassembly generally includes a substrate carrier, electrodes, and terminal pads for connecting the protection device,to a PC board. The second subassembly includes a voltage variable polymer material with nonlinear resistance characteristics, and the third subassembly includes a cover coat for protecting other elements of the circuit protection device. The devices of the present invention employ various electrode configurations and profiles to control the electrical field created between the electrodes and increase the active area of the electrodes in contact with the voltage variable material to enhance the electrical characteristics of the device.

Surface-mountable device for protection against electrostatic damage to electronic components

A circuit protection device including a pair of terminals to be electrically connected into an electrical circuit, a pair of spaced current-carrying extensions of the terminals, and an initially low resistance current limiting device extending between the current-carrying extensions. The invention includes the feature that the current-limiting element including flexible conductive current-feeding arms having inner and outer end portions, the inner end portions thereof being electrically connected to the current-carrying extensions of the terminals. The outer end portions of the current-feeding arms are cantilevered and flexible relative to the inner end portions. The device further preferably includes a PTC current-limiting element sandwiched between the flexible outer end portions of the current-feeding arms. The PTC element includes a layer of a PTC material having conductive opposite faces sandwiched between the flexible outer end portions of the arms so that the PTC material carries current between the outer end portions of the current-carrying arms. The layer of PTC material reaches a given trip level at an elevated current, expanding suddenly and substantially to flex the outer end portions of the current-carrying arm.

Resettable automotive circuit protection device with female terminals

Resettable automotive circuit protection device

A time delay fuse and various subassembly components for that time delay fuse. The fuse includes a housing made of an insulating material. The housing encloses a short-circuit fusible element, preferably a copper or copper alloy strip having a plurality of slots. The housing also encloses one or more rigid meltable fusible elements, preferably a plurality of solder bars. A body of resilient, compressible insulating material has at least one passageway through which each of the time delay fusible elements extends. When the rigid meltable fusible elements melt, the circuit through the fuse opens. In addition, the passageway which surrounded the rigid meltable fusible elements collapses upon its melting. This provides protection against 'arc-back.'

Time delay fuse

A fuse comprises a housing filled with arc-quenching material, terminals at the opposite ends of said housing, and a fuse element assembly in the housing connected between the terminals. The fuse element assembly has at least one short circuit blowing section and a center-melting slow blowing section, both disposed within an unpartitioned space in the housing, so that the entire body of arc-quenching material affects the short circuit blowing section of the fuse. The slow blowing fuse section has a surrounding layer of thermoplastic material which prevents the oxidation thereof and becomes plastic at the melting temperature of the time delay element. During the fuse element melting attendant to blowout, plastic deformation allows necessary geometric change in fuse element shape and facilitates collapse of the slow blowing fuse section.
