A device, system and method for administering radiation therapy to a tissue surface of a patient utilizes an applicator capable of controlled movement and repositioning over a selected area of tissue, under the control of a computer or controller. A servo-controlled manipulator can effect a raster scan of the desired area, such as an area of the skin, and this can be in any desired pattern such as serpentine, spiral, parallel but unidirectional, or irregular patterns. Preferably a third direction of control is included, i.e. a depth direction, with an appropriate form of depth sensor, a signal from which can be used to adjust the radiation source so that radiation of the tissue surface is consistent over varied contoured.

Apparatus and methods for radiation treatment of tissue surfaces

Methods for connecting electrical potential to an extractor cup at the cathode of a miniature x-ray tube are disclosed. The various connection schemes are designed to form a rugged and conveniently manufacturable connection between the metal extractor cup and one side of the cathode filament, so that the extractor cup shapes the path of electrons as desired en route to the anode of the tube. Some of the disclosed connections involve evaporation of conductive metal or other materials off the filament when the filament is first activated. Others involve applying a paste or paint conductive precursor directly to a base to connect a post and the extractor, the paste being heat-cured after the completion of assembly. Others involve a fine wire or spring strip from one filament post to the walls of the extractor cup. Other schemes include welded or brazed wires or foil, crimping, pinching, swaging and other connections, all made inside the tube enclosure.

Methods and structures are provided which support spacer walls in a position which facilitates installation of the spacer walls between a faceplate structure and a backplate structure of a flat panel display. In one embodiment, spacer feet are formed at opposing ends of the spacer wall. These spacer feet can be formed of materials such as ceramic, glass and/or glass frit. The spacer feet support the corresponding spacer wall on the faceplate (or backplate) structure. Tacking electrodes can be provided on the faceplate (or backplate) structure to assert an electrostatic force on the spacer feet, thereby holding the spacer feet in place during installation of the spacer wall. The spacer wall can be mechanically and/or thermally expanded prior to attaching both ends of the spacer wall to the faceplate (or backplate) structure. The spacer wall is then allowed to contract, thereby introducing tension into the spacer wall which tends to straighten any inherent waviness in the spacer wall. Alternatively, spacer clips can be clamped onto opposing ends of a spacer wall to support the spacer wall during installation. The spacer clips can provide electrical connections to face electrodes located on the spacer wall.

Self-standing spacer wall structures and methods of fabricating and installing same

A multi-level matrix structure for retaining a support structure within a flat panel display device. In one embodiment, the multi-level matrix structure is comprised of a first parallel ridges. The multi-level matrix structure further includes a second parallel ridges. The second parallel ridges are oriented substantially orthogonally with respect to the first parallel ridges. In this embodiment, the second parallel ridges have a height which is greater than the height of the first parallel ridges. Furthermore, in this embodiment, the second plurality of parallel spaced apart ridges include contact portions for retaining a support structure at a desired location within a flat panel display device. Hence, when a support structure is inserted between at least two of the contact portions of the multi-level support structure, the support structure is retained in place, at a desired location within the flat panel display device, by the contact portions.

Gripping multi-level black matrix

A multi-level matrix structure for frictionally retaining a support structure within a flat panel display device. In one embodiment, the present invention is comprised of a multi-level matrix structure. The multi-level matrix structure of the present embodiment is comprised of a first multi-layered structure disposed on an inner surface of a faceplate of a flat panel display device. The multi-level matrix structure of the present embodiment is further comprised of a plurality of substantially parallel spaced apart ridges. In this embodiment, the plurality of substantially parallel spaced apart ridges overlie the first multi-layered structure. Additionally, in this embodiment, the plurality of substantially parallel spaced apart ridges include contact portions for frictionally retaining a support structure in a first direction at a desired location within the flat panel display device.

Gripping multi-level structure

A flat panel display and a method for forming a flat panel display. In one embodiment, the flat panel display includes a wall which is held in place by a structure formed either on the faceplate or on the backplate. In one embodiment the supporting structure is formed by two adjacent walls that form a slot which mechanically restrains the wall. In another embodiment a slot is formed within the faceplate and the walls of the slot mechanically restrain the wall. In one embodiment wall segments are inserted into supporting structures that mechanically restrain each wall segment. In another embodiment a UV curable or a heat curable adhesive is used to maintain walls in their proper alignment and position. In yet another embodiment a conductive material is melted so as to bond conductive lines located on the wall and conductive lines located on the faceplate. This bond electrically connects the conductive lines located on the wall and the conductive lines located on the faceplate and maintains the wall in the proper alignment. The present invention eliminates the need for feet which attach to individual walls for maintaining the walls in the proper alignment.

Wall assembly and method for attaching walls for flat panel display

A spacer (,or,A/,B) situated between a faceplate structure (,) and a backplate structure (,) of a flat panel display is configured to be self standing. In one implementation, a pair of spacer feet (,or,and,or,) are located over the same face surface, or over opposite face surfaces, of a spacer wall (,) near opposite ends of the wall. An edge electrode (,or,) is located over an edge surface of the spacer adjacent to the faceplate structure or the backplate structure. In another implementation, a spacer clip (,A or,B) clamps opposite face surfaces of a spacer wall (,) largely at one end of the wall.
