Automotive vehicles equipped with automatic or standard transmissions and having automatically extending and retracting radio antennas are equipped with an arrangement for automatically retracting the antennas upon shifting from drive to neutral. Many car washes are equipped with endless belts or chains which engage and tow automotive vehicles through car washes. Before being towed, the drivers must shift to neutral. Drivers are also advised to lower radio antennas. By causing automatic lowering of radio antennas upon shifting from drive to neutral, drivers need no longer remember to retract their antennas. In order to have the arrangement operate effectively, there is about a 10 second delay in retracting the antennas upon shifting to neutral and extension immediately upon shifting out of neutral. An over-ride is provided should the driver for one reason or another desire to leave the transmission in neutral for a period of time greater than 10 seconds.

Automatically retractable radio antennas for automotive vehicles

A single arm windshield wiper assembly including a reversible motor, a wiper pivot assembly, and a windshield wiper blade slidably connected to the wiper pivot assembly. A first actuator sub-assembly is operatively connected between the reversible motor and the wiper pivot assembly for reciprocally actuating the wiper blade. A second actuator sub-assembly is operatively connected between the reversible motor and the windshield wiper blade for telescopically moving the wiper blade.

A dynamic fluid flow measurement apparatus is intended to be connected to a relative reference member, such as a marine vessel. The apparatus preferably includes a base member, a lever mechanism movable relative to the base member for transmitting force corresponding to direct dynamic fluid flow pressure applied to the lever mechanism, and a signal generator disposed in the base member for actuation by the lever mechanism. The signal generator generates an output signal corresponding to the force transmitted through the lever mechanism in response to fluid flow passed the relative reference member. In the preferred embodiment, the signal generator takes the form of a solid state pressure sensing transducer, such as a piezoresistive transducer sensor for sensing force transmitted through the lever mechanism. A central processing unit is provided in the preferred embodiment for receiving the electronic output signal from the signal generator and for generating a processed electronic output signal in accordance with a control program stored in memory. A display can be provided for receiving the output signal and for displaying a visual readout of information, such as relative speed of the fluid flow or marine vessel, based on the output signal.

Lever-operated dynamic fluid flow sensing system

A dynamic fluid flow sensing system measures relative fluid velocity with respect to a reference member. The system includes a sensor housing supported from the reference member such that the sensor housing is exposed to fluid flowing past the reference member. A solid-state pressure sensing transducer is supported by the sensor housing for generating an electronic output signal in proportion to a sensed dynamic pressure of fluid flowing past the reference member. A central processing unit receives the electronic output signal from the transducer and generates a processed electronic output signal in accordance with a stored control program. A display receives the processed electronic output signal and displays a visual readout of desired fluid flow characteristics based on the processed electronic output signal. The dynamic fluid flow sensing system can be used on marine vessels to indicate vessel speed or in confined fluid flow passages to indicate flow characteristics such as pressure, velocity and/or flow rate.

Solid-state transducer based dynamic fluid flow sensing system

An electric shift mechanism for an automotive transmission mechanism is disclosed in which a manual selector lever is universally mounted on a support adapted for sequentially pivoting north-south and east-west swingable rockers about associated intersecting axes. A gate limiting plate formed with a predetermined shift pattern is mounted on the support intermediate the rockers. The lower end of the lever has a ball follower for pre-loaded travel on a single cam track supported longitudinally on the east-west rocker. The cam track is contoured to simulate shift effort stability and feel of conventional manual gear shifting operations. The rockers allow crossover movement from a neutral lever position to preselect a desired gate for reciprocal fore and aft travel of the ball follower to selected transmission shift positions.
