A patient support system is provided for use on a litter of a patient support apparatus. The patient support system includes an expandable patient support and a control assembly connectable to the expandable patient support. The control assembly includes an inflator and a controller configured to provide pressure in one or more inner bladders at a first value when the expandable patient support is at a first width and reduce the pressure in the one or more inner bladders to a second value, lower than the first value, in response to inflating one or more outer bladders to expand the expandable patient support to a second width.

An ambulance cot loading and unloading system for an emergency vehicle includes a base for mounting in the emergency vehicle and an arm mounted for linear movement along the base, wherein the arm configured to support a cot while the cot is being loaded into or unloaded from the emergency vehicle. The ambulance cot loading and unloading system further includes an indicator mounted relative to the arm and a control system, which is in communication with the indicator and configured to generate a status indication of the cot loading and unloading system at the indicator.

The arm is and configured to engage the cot, and wherein when the track is extended along the base and the arm is extended along the track the arm is extended from the base in an extended position and is configured for lifting the cot and providing cantilevered support to the cot while in the extended position.

A patient support apparatus comprising a support frame and a patient support deck operatively attached to the support frame. The patient support deck has at least one deck section arranged for movement relative to the support frame. An actuator is arranged to move the deck section between an initial configuration and one or more raised configurations relative to the support frame. A link supports the deck section for movement with respect to the support frame. The link has a first end pivotally attached to the support frame, a second end pivotally attached to the deck section, and a protruding stop formed between the first end and the second end arranged to abut the deck section so as to prevent the actuator from moving the deck section beyond a maximum raised configuration.

A patient support apparatus, such as a bed, cot, stretcher, gurney, surgical table, or the like, is disclosed that includes at least one form of wireless energy transfer and/or at least one form of wireless communication amongst its components. The wireless energy transfer may include the inductive transfer of electrical energy from the main body of the patient support apparatus to a mattress positioned thereon that uses electrical energy. Alternatively, the wireless energy transfer may include the inductive transfer or electrical energy from a stationary power station to the patient support itself. Or, the patient support apparatus may include both types of inductive energy transfer. The wireless communication may be between a controller on the main body of the patient support apparatus and a controller within, or coupled to, the mattress.

An ambulance cot loading and unloading apparatus includes a base for mounting to an emergency vehicle deck and an arm mounted for linear movement along the base, which is configured for engaging an ambulance cot. A drive mechanism is provided for raising the arm, which is configured in the presence of an applied force with a first magnitude on the arm to raise the arm at a first speed and in the presence of an applied force on the arm with a second magnitude greater than the first magnitude to raise the arm at another speed or speeds lower than the first speed.

A chemical heating assembly includes a face plate, a chemical packet, a housing, a pair of electrical prongs carried by the housing, and a light assembly. The housing includes a first sliding arrangement and a first snap-fit arrangement, is connected to the face plate, and at least partially defines a pocket for the chemical packet. The light assembly includes a lamp, a second sliding arrangement engaged with the first sliding arrangement, and a second snap-fit arrangement coupled with the first snap-fit arrangement. The light assembly is mechanically connected to the housing and electrically connected with the pair of electrical prongs using the first and second sliding arrangements and the first and second snap-fit arrangements.

The plurality of wicks are at least partially contained within the housing and include a first wick and a second wick. The plurality of heating elements include a first heating element and a second heating element. The power control circuit powers the first heating element at a first level when the second heating element is not powered. The power control circuit powers the first heating element at a second level when the second heating element is powered.
