The present disclosure generally relates to a tape drive comprising one or more tape head modules. Each tape head module comprises 65 data elements disposed in a first row, each data element being a write element or a read element, and at least 5 servo element pairs disposed in a second row, the second row being disposed parallel to the first row. The second row is spaced a distance in a first direction from the first row. One or more data elements and one or more servo element pairs may be unwired and non-operable. The tape drive may comprise three tape head modules, where the second tape head module is disposed between the first and third tape head modules. Each data element of the first tape head module and the third tape head module are write elements, and each data element of the second module is a read element.

The present disclosure generally relates to a tape and a tape drive comprising a tape head and a controller. The tape drive comprises a tape comprising three data bands and four servo tracks, a servo track of the four servo tracks being disposed between adjacent data bands, one or more tape head modules, each tape head module comprising a plurality of data elements and two or more servo element pairs, and a controller configured to control each of the one or more tape head modules to write data to and read data from the tape. Each data band has a width of about one-third a total width of the tape, such as about 3800 μm to about 3900 μm. The three data bands and four servo tracks span the total width of the tape.

Each chip comprises a first data element array and a second data element array, where each data element array comprises 33 write elements or 33 read elements and one or more servo element pairs. Each data element of both the first and second data element arrays is coupled to two pads. The pads and the data element arrays of each chip are offset in a first direction such that the pads and data element arrays are offset from a central axis a distance about one-half the span of either the first or second data element array. Either the first data element array or the second data element arrays is centered upon the central axis.

The present disclosure generally relates to a tape drive including a tape head. The tape head comprises two modules, where each module comprises 64 writers, 64 readers, and three pairs of servo readers aligned with the 64 readers in a first row. The three pairs of servo readers comprise a first pair disposed at a first end of the first row, a second pair disposed between two groups of 32 readers, and a third pair disposed at a second end of the first row. The writers are disposed in a second row parallel to the first row, and are each aligned with an adjacent reader. The spacing between each reader and each writer is about 150 μm to about 200 μm. Each module is configured to write data to a tape using the 64 writers and to read verify the newly written data using the 64 readers.
