Methods and systems for managing the operation of data processing systems are disclosed. A data processing system may include a computing device that may provide computer implemented services. To provide the computer implemented services, data processing system may include hardware components. The hardware components may be positioned with an enclosure. A multifunctional handle may be used to facilitate both repositioning of the data processing system and securing of the hardware components with the enclosure.

System and method for managing positioning and access for data processing systems

A chassis assembly includes a rack chassis and a block assembly. The rack chassis includes a left side panel and a right side panel that are made from one continuous single material. The left side panel includes a left rail guide, and the right side panel includes a right rail guide. The block assembly is adapted to slide into the rack chassis and includes a top cover, a left sidewall, and a right sidewall that are interconnected. The left sidewall of the block assembly includes a left rail adapted to slide into the left rail guide when the block assembly is located leftmost of the rack chassis. The right sidewall of the block assembly includes a right rail that is adapted to slide into the right rail guide when the block assembly is located rightmost of the rack chassis.

An alignment adapter is to be placed in physical communication with a connector of an information handling system. The alignment adapter includes an insert portion and a support wall. The insert portion is to be placed within the connector, and to provide a proper alignment of a device board within the connector. The support wall is to be placed in physical communication with an outside edge of the connector. The support wall is a particular distance from the insert portion. A chamfer of the connector is to be placed within the particular distance the support wall is from the insert portion when the insert portion is fully inserted within the connector.

A floating device location identification system includes a chassis defining floating device housings and including respective chassis location identification features adjacent each floating device housing that identify the relative location of that floating device housing. A floating device may be positioned in a first floating device housing and adjacent a first chassis location identification feature. The first floating device includes floating device cabling connector(s) that are connected via a cabling subsystem to a device location identification subsystem, and chassis engagement elements that are coupled to the floating device cabling connector(s) and that engage the first chassis location identification feature. The floating device transmits floating device location identifying information to the device location identification subsystem that is based on the engagement of the chassis engagement elements and the first chassis location identification feature, and that identifies a relative location of the first floating device housing in the chassis.

An activity-light-based parameter reporting system includes a storage device that is coupled to a storage device activity light. The storage device includes a parameter reporting engine that monitors a parameter associated with the storage device, and determines whether a rate of change of the parameter has exceeded a reporting rate of change. In response to determining that the rate of change of the parameter has exceeded the reporting rate of change, the parameter reporting engine drives the storage device activity light via at least one activity light parameter reporting signal that is configured to report the parameter. A controller monitors the driving of the storage device activity light by the parameter reporting engine, and identifies a parameter value of the parameter via the at least one activity light parameter reporting signal used by the parameter reporting engine to drive the storage device activity light.

Periods of interoperability of sideband buses prevent effective management of managed devices by a remote access controller. Embodiments avoid periods of inoperability of sideband buses and recover the sideband bus without resetting the managed devices or the IHS (Information Handling System). The remote access controller configures timer and transmits the timer to a managed device. The managed device monitors the sideband for messages for the remote access controller. If no messages are received before expiration of the timer, the managed device resets its sideband bus endpoint, without resetting the managed device.

System and method for recovery of sideband interfaces for controllers

A receiver includes signal lanes to receive associated data bit streams, and a control module. The signal lanes each include configurable equalization modules to provide a selectable compensation value to the associated data bit stream. The control module performs back channel adaptations on each data bit stream to achieve a target bit error rate for the associated signal lane, determines a most common set of compensation values from the performance of the back channel adaptations, determines whether the compensation value is within a predetermined boundary for that selectable compensation value, and provides an alert when a first compensation value of the most common set of compensation values is not within the predetermined boundary for the first compensation value.

Systems and methods for managing Serial Attached Small Computer System Interface (SAS) traffic with storage monitoring are described. In some embodiments, an Information Handling System (IHS) may include an embedded controller (EC) and a memory coupled to the EC, the memory having program instructions stored thereon that, upon execution, cause the EC to: designate a first Baseband Management Controller (BMC) as active; designate a second BMC as passive; and receive, from the active BMC, monitoring data relating to one or more of a plurality of storage devices without receiving the monitoring data from the passive BMC.

A computer system and a method for allocating power to hot-plugged adapter cards placed in a card slot so as to delay, the power allocation until a user is clear of the adapter card. The computer system conventionally includes a processor, a card slot in data communication with the processor, a memory in data communication with the processor, and a power supply in electrical communication with the processor. The memory stores computer-readable data that includes code to be operated on by the processor to allocate power to the card slot upon both a detection of a change of state of the card slot and the occurrence of a predefined system event. The predefined system event is typically a system interrupt that is generated in response to an activation of a switch in electrical communication with the processor.

Method and computer system for safely hot-plugging adapter cards

A communications system for multiple computer system management circuits to enable remote management of the computer systems via a remote management system. The management circuits are operably coupled to a remote connector circuit via a communications bus (e.g. a bus conforming to the RS-485 communications standard). The remote connector circuit can be implemented on a daughter card of one of the computer systems. The remote connector circuit includes modem circuitry for providing operating information on operating conditions of the computer systems to a remote management system and for receiving operating commands to be provided to the management circuits wherein the computer systems initiate operations (e.g. rebooting and power cycle) in response to receiving the commands. The RS-485 bus is configured in a daisy chain configuration to allow for a simplified addition of new computer systems to the bus.

Communications system for multiple computer system management circuits

A system for enabling remote console redirection on a computer system having a remote monitor connector circuit located on a different computer bus than a local monitor connector circuit. In one example, a remote monitor connector circuit located on a PCI computer bus generates system management interrupts (SMIs) via an interrupt controller to a system processor of a computer system such as a server. In response to a SMI, the system processor invokes an interrupt handler to determine the source of the interrupt. In response to determining that the SMI was generated by the remote monitor connector circuit, the system processor places the video data being provided to a local monitor connector circuit (such as a graphics accelerator conforming to the Accelerated Graphics Port interface standard) into a shared memory location accessible by both the system processor and the remote monitor connector circuit. The remote monitor connector circuit provides the video data to a remote monitor via e.g. a telephone network for display on the remote monitor. The remote monitor connector circuit generates the SMIs periodically during a startup routine until a graphical mode operating system boots up.
