An impedance-based respiration monitoring system for apnea detection includes at least three surface electrodes configured to record impedance respiration data from a patient's torso, a signal processing system, and an apnea detection module. The signal processing system is configured to generate a first respiration lead formed by a first set of surface electrodes from the at least three surface electrodes, the first respiration lead providing a first series of impedance measurements, and to generate a second respiration lead formed by a second set of surface electrodes attached to the patient's torso, the second lead providing a second series of impedance measurements. The apnea detection module is executable on a processor to calculate a first apnea metric based on the first series of impedance measurements, and calculate a second apnea metric based on the second series of impedance measurements. An apnea event is then detected based on the first apnea metric and the second apnea metric.

System and method for apnea detection

A repositionable surface electrode for patient monitoring includes an active electrode layer having a top surface and a bottom surface and a leadwire connected to the active electrode layer. A first substrate has a top side, a bottom side, and a hole there through. The first substrate is positioned below the bottom surface of the active electrode layer such that the hole is aligned with the active electrode layer. An electrode gel channel is configured to conduct potentials from the patient's skin to the active electrode layer, the electrode gel channel extending through the hole in the first substrate. A silicone layer on the bottom side of the first substrate, avoiding the hole and the electrode channel, is configured to adhere the surface electrode to the patient's skin and to be removed from the patient's skin without becoming saturated with skin cells such that the electrode repositionable on the patient.

Repositionable surface electrodes

A data acquisition system for use with expandable ECG electrode systems. The data acquisition system includes a main unit and one or more expansion units for increasing the number of ECG leads applied to a patient for enhanced monitoring capabilities. Multiple embodiments are illustrated for providing a common mode signal between the main electrode unit and expansion units without requiring the physical transmission of voltage potential between the main unit and the expansion unit. In one embodiment, the main unit and the expansion unit share a common ground reference potential. In a second embodiment, an optical signal is transmitted between the main unit and the extension unit to relay the common mode information while in a third embodiment, common electrode potentials are provided to both the main unit and the extension unit for constructing their own common reference signal.

An adjustable leadwire device for connecting at least one surface electrode to a physiological monitor includes a length of insulated wire between a first attachment end and a second attachment end. The first attachment end includes a first connection means configured to conductively connect to the surface electrode and the second attachment end includes a second connection means configured to conductively connect to the physiological monitor. At least a portion of the length of insulated wire is coiled to form a helix. A sheath surrounds the helix and has a first end opening and a second opening. The sheath is configured such that coiled insulated wire is extendable out of at least one of the first end opening or the second end opening by pulling a respective one of the first attachment and the second attachment end in order to adjust a length of the adjustable leadwire device.

Adjustable leadwire device for patient physiological monitoring and methods for making the same

A wireless sensing device and a method for operating a wireless sensing device are described herein. The wireless sensing device includes a battery power supply and a processor that transmits detected physiological parameters from the sensing device to a monitoring device. when the battery level within the sensing device falls below a minimum threshold, the processor of the sensing device reserves a portion of the battery charge to power an indicator to increase the noticeability of the sensing device. The sensing device can also include an RFID tag that is written to by the processor when the state of charge on the battery falls below the minimum threshold. The RFID tag allows RFID detectors to sense the presence of the sensing device without requiring additional battery power.
