Drug delivery devices and methods of controlled drug delivery to a patient are provided. The drug delivery device may include one or two microchip elements, each of which has a body portion with one or more drug release apertures in fluid communication with at least one containment reservoir. The drug release apertures are closed off by one or more reservoir caps which can be electrically activated to open the drug release apertures. The drug delivery device also includes (i) a drug formulation disposed in the at least one containment reservoir, and (ii) at least one drug-permeable membrane. In some cases, an outer housing is spaced a distance from an exterior wall of the body portion of the microchip element, the outer housing includes the at least one drug-permeable membrane, and a depot space is defined between the drug-permeable membrane and the exterior wall of the body portion of the microchip element.

Two stage microchip drug delivery device and methods

A device for administering a liquid drug formulation to a patient is disclosed. The device includes a reservoir configured to hold a quantity of a liquid drug formulation and a microfluidic circuit that includes at least one flow path configured to transport the liquid drug formulation from the reservoir to a drug release outlet. The microfluidic circuit includes at least one flow restrictor in the at least one flow path. The at least one flow restrictor includes a first substrate secured to a second substrate with a flow channel formed into at least one of the first substrate and the second substrate, and disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate.

Devices and methods for flow restriction in a microfluidic circuit for drug delivery

Devices and methods for administering a medication in fluid form, the systems and methods including a basal flow path and a bolus flow path in parallel to the basal flow path. The bolus flow path includes a combined piston pump and rotatable valve. The piston pump is configured to prevent partial dosing of a bolus dose.

Systems and methods for sealing a plurality of reservoirs of a microchip element with a sealing grid are provided. For example, in one embodiment, a microchip element comprises a primary substrate having a plurality of reservoirs defined therein. The microchip element also includes a single continuous sealing groove defined in the primary substrate that extends around each of the plurality of reservoirs. In addition, the microchip element includes a sealing substrate comprising a single continuous sealing protrusion extending therefrom. The single continuous sealing protrusion corresponds to and is configured to mate with the single continuous sealing groove to form a hermetic bond between the primary substrate and the sealing substrate. In this manner, the single continuous sealing groove and the single continuous sealing protrusion form a sealing grid about the plurality of reservoirs.

Systems and methods for sealing a plurality of reservoirs of a microchip element with a sealing grid

Devices and methods for administering a medication in fluid form, the systems and methods including a basal flow path and a bolus flow path in parallel to the basal flow path. The bolus flow path includes an inlet check valve, a first outlet check valve downstream of the inlet check valve, and a piston pump disposed between the inlet check valve and the first outlet check valve. The piston pump is configured to prevent partial dosing of a bolus dose.

In one aspect, containment devices are provided that include a microchip element having one or more containment reservoirs that are configured to be electrically activated to open; an electronic printed circuit board (PCB) or a silicon substrate positioned adjacent to the microchip element; one or more electronic components associated with the microchip element or the PCB/silicon substrate; and a first inductive coupling device associated with the microchip element or the PCB/silicon substrate, wherein the first inductive coupling device is in operable communication with the one or more electronic components. In another aspect, implantable drug delivery devices are provided that include a body housing at least one drug payload for actively controlled release, wherein the ratio of the volume of the at least one drug payload to the total volume of the implantable drug delivery device is from about 75 &#x3bc;L/cc to about 150 &#x3bc;L/cc.

Implantable medical device for minimally-invasive insertion

Containment devices and methods of manufacture and assembly are provided. In an embodiment, the device includes at least one microchip element, which includes a containment reservoir that can be electrically activated to open, and a first electronic printed circuit board (PCB) which comprises a biocompatible substrate. The first PCB may have a first side on which one or more electronic components are fixed and an opposed second side on which the microchip element is fixed in electrical connection to the one or more electronic components. The device may further include a second PCB and a housing ring securing the first PCB together with the second PCB. The microchip element may include a plurality of containment reservoirs, which may be microreservoirs, and/or which may contain a drug formulation or a sensor element.

Space-efficient containment devices and method of making same

Containment devices and methods of manufacture and assembly are provided. In an embodiment, the containment device includes an elongated microchip element comprising one or more containment reservoirs that are configured to be electrically activated to open. The containment device also include an elongated electronic printed circuit board (PCB) comprising a substrate. The elongated PCB comprises a first side on which one or more electronic components are fixed and an opposed second side on which the elongated microchip element is fixed in electrical connection to the one or more electronic components. Further, the containment device includes an elongated housing fixed to the elongated PCB. The elongated housing is configured to hermetically seal the one or more electronic components of the elongated PCB within the elongated housing.

Drug delivery devices and methods are provided. The device included two or more housing units connected together end-to-end in a fixed, linear orientation, the exterior surfaces of the connected housing units defining a sidewall of the device; discrete drug dose units disposed within the housing units; degradable timing members connected to the housing units and separating the discrete dose units from one another; first and second end pieces defining opposed ends of the device such that the discrete dose units are located between the first and second end pieces within each of the housing units, wherein the device is configured to release in vivo a first of the discrete dose units following rupture of the first or second end piece, and subsequently to release in vivo a second of the discrete dose units following rupture of the degradable timing member separating the first discrete dose unit from the second discrete dose unit.

Multi-dose drug delivery device and method

A substantially enclosed brush holder assembly includes a brush fixture of singular piece construction for use in a harsh operating environment, such as that in which a motor vehicle alternator operates. An exemplary brush holder assembly according to the present invention includes a brush fixture for use in connection with a dynamoelectric machine. The brush fixture has at least one brush compartment that is configured to receive a brush. The brush fixture also includes at least one set of spring coil compartments, each of which are designed to receive one of two spring coils of a constant force extension spring. These spring coil compartments are adjacent to and in open communication with the brush compartment, thereby allowing the constant force extension spring to be extended through the brush compartment and peripherally around the brush located therein. The interiors of both the brush compartment and each of the spring coil compartments are substantially enclosed when the brush fixture is affixed to a cooperative shielding fixture. In particular, the brush fixture includes only one open face, and the open face is advantageously configured to receive the cooperative shielding fixture, which when assembled to the brush fixture substantially encloses the brush fixture.

A fluid flow control system includes a disposable cartridge which is receivable in a shifting carrier body portion of a control module. The disposable cartridge houses a disposable pump and a pressure transducer element which are fluidly interconnected by an internal fluid flow circuit formed in part by an elastomeric separating sheet within the cartridge. Following loading of the cartridge, shifting of the carrier body portion automatically results in a drive connection to the pump, the positioning of various flow control valves within the cartridge and the seating of the pressure transducer element to the control module. External flow lines are readily placed in fluid communication with the internal fluid flow circuit through exterior connection ports provided on the cartridge.

An ice level sensor includes three capacitive plates for sensing the level of ice cubes in an ice tray or ice bucket. The ice level sensor preferably includes a relay for turning off the ice maker when a particular ice level is reached. The three capacitive plates provide immunity to frost collection because frost will collect on all plates equally. Preferably, the capacitive sensor is positioned with one plate next to the ice bucket and two plates positioned above the ice bucket. Preferably, the ice sensor may be retrofitted to existing refrigerators by mounting the capacitor plates to the rear freezer wall, and connecting AC input wires to the ice maker through a relay in the capacitor sensor.

Trocar assembly devices are disclosed that include an improved seal assembly that accommodates instruments having a wide range of diameters. The seal assembly includes a universal seal member that is generally of hourglass shape defining converging and diverging side walls that form a constricted center bore portion therebetween. Various alternative means are provided to either increase or decrease the inner diameter of the center bore portion of the seal member.
