The present invention relates generally to the field of electrospun fibers. In particular, the present invention relates to core-sheath fibers and related electrospinning methods. The fibers of the invention comprise poorly water soluble drugs and/or proteins.

Systems and methods for electrospinning of core-sheath fibers are provided. The systems and methods achieve optimization of a shear stress that exists at a fluid boundary between core and sheath polymer solutions, by varying certain parameters of an electrospinning apparatus and/or the solutions used therewith.

Process of electrospinning core-sheath fibers

A patient warming appliqu&#xe9; typically includes a cover layer, a tape layer for releasably securing the appliqu&#xe9; to the patient's skin and an array of encapsulated cells. The encapsulated cells include a chemical heating mechanism beneath the cover layer and a phase change gel sheet between the chemical heating mechanism and the tape layer. The phase change gel sheet is configured to melt and flow when the chemical heating mechanism is activated. The preferred appliqu&#xe9; further includes zones of weakness between the spaced cells allowing the individual cells or a subset of cells to be removed from the appliqu&#xe9;.
