Disclosed is a tubular core on which sheets of metal or other material can be wound and supported, for shipment, handling and dispersal, and a method for forming the core. The core comprises a metal sheet or strip which has a rectangular-ribbed cross-sectional profile comprising rectangular, flat ribs, and which is wound spirally into a tubular configuration. The core is formed by passing the strip through a plurality of roll-forming stands, to progressively form sections of the ribs and progressively define the sections into the rectangular ribbed profile in which the flat ribs collectively form a support surface for the sheets which are to be wound on the core.

Tubular core and method

Modified-profile metal strips, and annular and spiral metal pipes and other products formed from such strips. The strips comprise a plurality of spaced longitudinal ribs of size and transverse location selected to increase the strength of a given thickness or gauge of the strip and the associated strength of a product formed from the strip.

Ribbed spiral pipe

Apparatus for forming a plastic attachment on an article includes clamping mechanisms which position the article and form a mold surrounding the appropriate section of the article. During the process of molding the plastic attachment, the article may be moved through the mold to facilitate forming the attachment along a length of the article. The apparatus is illustrated by an annular mold for forming mating plastic couplings around the ends of tubes such as corrugated and smooth-walled metal pipes.

Active mold apparatus

A plastic coupling for joining two metal pipe sections end-to-end to form a pipe assembly. A first plastic spigot cuff is formed along the periphery of the end of the first pipe and a mating second plastic bell cuff is formed along the periphery of the end of the second pipe, such that the first and second cuffs form a bell and spigot joint with the first, spigot cuff inserted into and joined to the second, bell cuff.

Composite pipe assembly and components

A coupling for joining metal pipes or pipe sections end-to-end to form a pipe assembly. A plastic cuff is formed on one of the pipe ends and a mating, second plastic cuff is formed on the other pipe end. In one embodiment, a wire hoop is mounted over each pipe end, the hoops are rotatable around the associated pipe ends to align the hoops, and bolt assemblies spanning the two hoops are used to tighten the hoops axially, to thereby clamp the pipe ends and compress the cuffs between the pipe ends and provide a leak-proof joint. The cuffs are selected from configurations including tongue-and-groove and bell-and-spigot. The cuffs can be formed on the pipe ends in the shop, then the pre-cuffed pipe sections can be readily assembled into stable, leak-proof, corrosion-resistant lengths of pipe in the field.

Composite metal pipe coupling and assembly

A coupling and methods for interconnecting the ends of spirally ribbed pipe are disclosed. Grooves are formed transversely across two or more ribs of the pipe and a coupling ring is secured to the end of the pipe by lugs or cleats which rotatably engage with the grooves. Contact surfaces of the lugs are angled relative to the grooves to center the coupling ring axially of the pipe. The angular relationship of the grooves and contact surfaces of the lugs draw the ring into abutting contact with the end of the pipe as they rotatably engage the grooves.

Pipe coupling method

A bellows pipe construction and method for manufacturing are disclosed wherein helically wound coils of logitudinally corrugated strip are joined with an interlocking seam. Thereafter, the interlocking seam is deformed to position the edges of the strip in substantial parallelism with the axis of the pipe. The resulting pipe can be extended or shortened for installation and will further adjust and accommodate ground movement without substantial loss of strength.

Method of making bellows pipe

A section of corrugated pipe is provided having complementary bell and spigot end portions, the bell end portion being longitudinally segmented and having integrally formed flexible side wall strips connected to and projecting from a substantially cylindrical shroud. The spigot end portion of each section is receivable within the bell end portion, and an annular recess is formed in the exterior surface for receiving the side wall strips of another section when connected therewith. A plastic liner extends through each pipe section with sealing means provided to form a continuous, smooth inner conduit.
