An illuminated deep pelvic surgical retractor for illuminating a surgical site and retracting tissue adjacent thereto, the illuminated surgical retractor having a handle member interconnected at an obtuse angle to a first elongate section and a second elongate section that is releasably connected to the first elongate section and a portion of the second elongate section defining an illumination input end portion which is optically coupled to a light source so that the second elongate section is substantially illuminated, and, a shield member is positioned adjacent to the distal end portion of the first elongate section to aid in directing light selectively from the second elongate section to the desired tissue or organ.

Illuminated deep pelvic retractor

A port assembly adapted for insertion into the tissue of a patient during laparoscopic or endoscopic surgery wherein the port assembly includes an access port having a plurality of openings therein to allow for the insertion of multiple surgical instruments therethrough while maintaining a barrier to the flow of gas from the body cavity of the patient to the atmosphere. The access port is positioned in the housing of the port assembly and preferably includes two or more circular or semi-circularly shaped openings therein and a sealing member associated therewith to allow for the independent movement of the instruments therethrough.

Dual lumen access port

An illuminated retractor for creating a working space for dissecting instruments in support of a surgical procedure such as rectal examination or for the removal of polyps or hemorrhoids or other types of procedures which require the illumination and access to tissue in the rectal area of a patient, the illuminated retractor having a handle member pivotally connected at an obtuse angle to a first cylindrical and elongate section and a second elongate section that is releasably connected to the first elongate section and a portion of the second elongate section defining an illumination input end portion which is optically coupled to a light source so that the second elongate section is substantially illuminated, and, an operating channel extends along the lengthwise dimension of the first elongate section and the operating channel is illuminated by the second elongate section in use.

Illuminated rectal retractor

An illuminated rectal retractor for creating a working space for dissecting instruments in support of a surgical procedure such as rectal examination or for the removal of polyps or hemorrhoids or other types of procedures which require the illumination and access to tissue in the rectal area of a patient, the illuminated retractor having a handle member pivotally connected at an obtuse angle to a first cylindrical and elongate section and a second elongate section that is releasably connected to the first elongate section and a portion of the second elongate section defining an illumination input end portion which is optically coupled to a light source so that the second elongate section is substantially illuminated, and, an operating channel extends along the lengthwise dimension of the first elongate section and the operating channel is illuminated by the second elongate section in use.

A surgical knot pusher and method for use thereof to facilitate the tying of surgical sutures at remote sites within the body during endoscopic surgery and other minimally invasive surgical procedures, the knot pusher having a tubular, elongated housing having a passage defining a rod axis therethrough, a suture receiving tip forming a J-shaped hook defining a gap, a drive rod slidably disposed within the passage of the housing and extending substantially co-axial to the rod axis of the housing, wherein the drive rod is connected to the tip so that said tip is selectively operable between an open position, wherein axial movement of the drive rod relative to the housing causes a portion of the tip to extend beyond the distal end of the housing so that a length of suture may be inserted therein the gap of the hook of the tip, and a closed position, wherein axial movement of the drive rod relative to the housing causes the tip to be received within the passage of the housing proximate the distal end of the housing so that an eyelet having an aperture for releasably capturing the first length of the suture is formed, and a knot pushing surface formed from the exterior surface of the tip.
