Organoclays are added to semiconductive compositions to provide a reduction in the dielectric losses of layered composites in which the semiconductive layer contains species which could migrate into the insulation and result in undesirably high dielectric losses. The present disclosure is directed to a plasticizer, a polymeric composition containing the plasticizer, and conductors coated with the polymeric composition. The plasticizer includes a blend of an epoxidized soybean oil and a trans-esterified epoxidized fatty acid methyl ester. The trans-esterified epoxidized fatty acid methyl ester has an oxirane value greater than or equal to 6.8%. The plasticizer, the polymeric composition, and the coated conductor retain color during heat aging.

The present invention is a flame-retardant polyolefin/thermoplastic polyurethane formulation made from or containing a polyolefin, a thermoplastic polyurethane, and an intumescent, polyphosphate flame retardant composition. The invented system achieves elongations &#x3e;400% and tensile strengths &#x3e;1500 psi while the same polyolefin only achieved 100% elongation and &#x3c;1000 psi tensile strength. The present disclosure provides a composition which includes a thermoplastic elastomer and a flame retardant composed of a metal hydrate and an oligomeric phosphate ester. The weight ratio of metal hydrate to oligomeric phosphate ester is greater than 1.45:1. The composition may be a component of an article such as a coated wire or a coated cable, with the composition present in the coating.
