Photosensitized silicones having the formula MD,D,D*,M are provided, wherein M is selected from the group consisting of R,SiO,and R,ESiO,; wherein each R is independently selected from the group consisting of monovalent hydrocarbon radicals having from 1 to 30 carbons, and E is an epoxide functionalized substituent selected from the group of epoxy either substitutents having the formula C,H,O,or the group of alkyl cyclohexeneoxide substituents having the formula C,H,O; D has the formula R,SiO,, wherein each R is independently selected from the group consisting of monovalent hydrocarbon radicals having from 1 to 30 carbons; D,has the formula RESiO,wherein R is selected from the group consisting of monovalent hydrocarbon radicals having from 1 to 30 carbon atoms, and wherein E is an epoxide functionalized substituent selected from the group of epoxy ether substituents having the formula C,H,O,or the group of alkyl cyclohexeneoxide substituents having the formula C,H,O; D* is defined as the reaction product of D,with a compound selected from the group consisting of R&prime;COOH, (R&prime;CO),O, R&prime;COX, R&prime;SO,H, and R&prime;SO,X wherein R&prime; is a photosensitizing naphthalene substituent and X is a halogen; and wherein the subscripts n, m, and p are integers where the sum of n&plus;m&plus;p ranges from about 10 to about 2,000. The invention provides a process for producing epoxy-functional silicones by a rhodium metal complex-catalyzed hydrosilation reaction between an SiH-containing silane or siloxane and an olefin epoxide, in the presence of a tertiary amine stabilizer. In practicing the invention, RhCl.sub.3 [(CH.sub.3 (CH.sub.2).sub.3).sub.2 S].sub.3 or PtCl.sub.2 [(CH.sub.3 CH.sub.2).sub.2 S].sub.2 are suitable hydrosilation catalysts and methyldicocoamine, CH.sub.3 (C.sub.18 H.sub.37).sub.2 N, is a suitable stabilizer. The invention also provides for a composition including an SiH-functional silane or siloxane, and a tertiary amine, where the composition is not susceptible to gelation during a hydrosilation addition reaction. The invention further provides a method for stabilizing epoxysilicones both during and after the hydrosilation addition reaction used in their production.
