Disclosed is a printing apparatus and method to correct for image non-uniformities. The printing apparatus comprises a photoreceptor (P/R) belt charging device positioned to charge the P/R belt after an image is transferred to a media sheet. Subsequently, an image sensing device scans the P/R belt residual image or patches to detect image non-uniformities.

A method for removing a residue, such as lateral charge migration (LCM) film, from an imaging member includes contacting at least a portion of the imaging member with a wash liquid capable of removing the residue. The wash liquid containing the residue is then removed, for example, by applying an absorbent material such as a toner, to the contacted portion of the imaging member.

An apparatus for providing tension to a photoreceptor belt mounted for rotation about a plurality of fixed rollers mounted to a frame of an imaging device comprises a tensioning roller having a longitudinal axis and a convex contact surface for forcing a wrap angle with an inner surface of the photoreceptor belt, a moment arm mounted at a first end to the frame for pivotal movement relative to the frame about a pivot axis fixed relative to the frame and mounted at a second end to the tensioning roller; and a force exerting mechanism mounted to the frame and coupled through the moment arm to the tensioning roller to provide a force perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the tensioning roller, the force exerting mechanism being configured to increase the force exerted thereby as the length of the photoreceptor belt increases.

An apparatus for developing in a development zone a latent image recorded on a surface, including a housing defining a chamber storing at least a supply of toner therein; a donor member disposed of at least partially in the chamber of the housing and spaced from the surface, the donor member being adapted to rotate about a longitudinal axis to transport toner to the development zone in a region opposed from the surface; and a wire assembly module mounted the development zone and extending in a direction transverse to the longitudinal axis, the wire assembly module including a wire and a drive system for translating portions of the wire in the development zone, and power supply for electrically biasing the wire to detach toner from the donor member so as to form a toner powder cloud in the development zone with detached toner from the toner cloud developing the latent image.

In a method of plastic injection molding of plastic parts with a critical external dimensional accuracy, in particular plastic gears, the plastic molding material is first injected into the mold, and then gas is injected under pressure into the mold to reduce shrinkage of the plastic material away from the mold surface, forming a gas bubble in the plastic molding material in the mold. Then after cooling of that first injected plastic, a separate, secondary injection of more of the same plastic material under pressure into the gas bubble, in the mold (before removing the plastic part from the mold), provides increased strength and a uniform rotational moment of inertia of the gear.

Manufacturing a drive system with a mating gear set with substantially reduced gear axis misalignment drive motion non-uniformity error with half-crowned gear teeth, crowned on only one side, to allow for simple and low cost gear molding, but with the mating gears mounted to oppositely mesh their respectively half-crowned sides. The amount of crowning may be in the range of approximately 75-100 microns.

In a printing apparatus with a component such as an imaging surface having critical drive motion uniformity, there is provide a drive system with at least one meshing pair of rotatable first and second drive gears, with at least one gear having gear teeth with a crowned outer engagement edge, with crowning sufficient to substantially increase the drive motion uniformity of the drive system in spite of alignment variations of said first and second gear axes of gear rotation. Preferably each meshing gear has all its gear teeth only half-crowned, on only one side, to allow for simple and low cost gear molding, but the gears are mounted to oppositely mesh their respectively half-crowned sides. The amount of crowning may be in the range of approximately 75-100 microns.
