Systems and methods encourage users to rotate injection sites and avoid lipodystrophy. Sleeves and/or lost-tooth gear dials and/or microswitches in or on injection pens or their caps, on vials, and on other portable devices manually adjust an indicator before or after an injection to show a current or next injection site in accordance with a site rotation plan. Injected medicine packaging and related printed indicia encourage site rotation. Optical devices employing optical mouse or projection technology help locate and/or distribute injection sites within a body area. A mobile phone app tracks injections and locations to select next injection site, and can use imaging to locate a target injection site and optionally diagnose lipodystrophic conditions and record them. Tactile and print media educational tools are presented to help users palpate and identify lipos in body areas having injection sites.

An adapter for connection with a fluid container includes an outer housing having a distal end, a proximal end, and a substantially cylindrical sidewall extending between the distal end and the proximal end, an inner member including a body rotatably inserted within the outer housing, a connector extending from the body configured to connect the adapter to a fluid container, and at least one grasping member extending from the inner member, the grasping member being configured for grasping by a user of the adapter, a first locking arrangement engageable with a distal end of the inner member and configured to restrict the inner member from rotating relative to the outer housing in a first direction, and a second locking arrangement engageable with a proximal end of the inner member and configured to restrict the inner member from moving in a proximal direction relative to the outer housing.

A multiple carrier injection system includes an adapter, having at least one arm, and a pen needle assembly. The pen needle assembly includes a hub retaining a needle and a bullet having a cover to seal the bullet, where the bullet encloses the hub in a first position. The arm engages the adapter to the hub, and the arm causes the hub to rotate within the bullet to move the hub into a second position.

Pen needle multiple carrier injection system

Devices, systems and methods are provided to detect when items are removed from a multiple cavity carrier (MCC) that stores items (e.g., pen needle assemblies) in respective cavities. A separate, reusable data collection unit (DCU) can be mounted to the MCC and has sensors for detecting cavity status (e.g., empty or filled with an item). The DCU stores data related to time stamps, optional dates, and cavity locations of item removal from and optional used item return to respective ones of the MCC cavities to help users track item usage (e.g., pen needle assemblies) to improve medication delivery management such as insulin injections with an injection pen and pen needle assemblies. Indicators can be generated to indicate from which cavity the next item should be extracted to encourage injection site rotation.

Aspects of the disclosure relate to reactive demarcation templates for demarcating a test area on a test surface and for generating a visual indication of chemical properties of the test surface. An injection device is provided with dual medicament chambers and a mixing pen needle assembly, whereby predetermined dosages of two medicaments can be provided to a mixing reservoir in the pen needle assembly and delivered simultaneously with the injection device.

A lancer device that enables a user to draw blood from a patient and discard the used lancet without touching it. The device also has an adjustable tip for selecting the depth of stylet penetration into the patient and a triggering mechanism that utilizes a yoke latch and a leaf spring to discharge the lancet. The lancer also has a dampening feature to reduce vibrations when the lancet is moving.

An injectable substance delivery device comprising a pen device body, a cartridge, a plunger, a drive mechanism, and at least one of a lock-out mechanism and a rate-limiting mechanism. The lock-out mechanism is provided through a ratchet engagement between the body and the plunger to restrict plunger movement and to ensure that the required needle puncture depth is realized prior to injection by locking out the injection mechanism from advancing until a specified force is applied to the skin. A rate-limiting mechanism is also provided through a user compressed plunger drive spring to ensure that a specific rate of injection is realized during the injection of a medicament.

In one aspect, a needle assembly is provided herein which includes a hub; a needle fixed to the hub, the needle having a proximal end and a distal end, the distal end formed for insertion into a patient; and, a body disposed on the hub so as to be moveable relative thereto, the body having a distal end with an aperture formed therein configured to permit passage therethrough of the needle. The body is releasably retainable in a first position on the hub where the distal end of the needle extends distally a first distance from the distal end of the body. Also, the body is retainable in a second position on the hub where the distal end of the needle extends distally a second distance from the distal end of the body, the second distance being less than the first distance. The hub is displaceable proximally relative to the body to urge the body from the first position to the second position. Advantageously, with the subject invention, a needle assembly is provided which may provide a stop for a needle injection to a first depth, with the stop being adjustable to permit the injection to be conducted at a shallower, second depth.

A lancing device integrated with a sensing strip and method of making and using the same are provided. A lance and analyte sensing strip are combined in a single, preferably disposable, device. In a preferred embodiment, a slot is provided in a support member so the lance can be engaged by a lance driver and driven into the skin producing a bodily fluid sample from a wound. The sensing area of the sensing strip is adjacent to the wound location reducing dexterity requirements for patients.

A medication delivery device, particularly an intradermal delivery device, having a needle cannula, with a sharpened distal end having a forward tip, and a limiter disposed about the needle cannula. The limiter has a distal end defining a skin engaging surface which is disposed transversely to, and at least partially about, the needle cannula. The skin engaging surface is generally non-flat with generally coplanar portions, and a recess being defined in the skin engaging surface which defines a void in or adjacent to the coplanar portions into which portions of a patient's skin can be deformed into when the skin engaging surface is pressed against the patient's skin. The forward tip of the needle cannula is spaced apart from a plane defined by the coplanar portions a distance ranging from about 0.5 mm to 3.0 mm such that the skin engaging surface limits penetration of the forward tip of the needle cannula to the dermis layer of the patient's skin.
