A sono-molecular-conversion device and method for effecting nitrification of ammonia in water, the method including feeding the water containing ammonia through a sono-molecular conversion device including a plurality of ultrasound transducers; and applying ultrasonic energy to the water containing ammonia by the sono-molecular conversion device to ultrasonically collapse microsized bubbles with transient cavitation in the water containing ammonia to effect nitrification of ammonia therein by sono-molecular-conversion.

Method and device for removal of ammonia and related contaminants from water

A sono-molecular-conversion device and method for treating waste water including (a) feeding the waste water containing organic matter through a first sono-molecular conversion device including a plurality of ultrasound transducers; (b) applying ultrasonic energy to the waste water containing the organic matter by the sono-molecular conversion device to ultrasonically collapse microsized bubbles with transient cavitation in said waste water containing organic matter to effect mineralization of the organic matter into ammonia therein by sono-molecular-conversion; (c) feeding the waste water containing the ammonia through a second sono-molecular conversion device including a plurality of ultrasound transducers; and (d) applying ultrasonic energy to the waste water containing the ammonia by the sono-molecular conversion device to ultrasonically collapse microsized bubbles with transient cavitation in said waste water containing the ammonia to effect nitrification of the ammonia into nitrates and nitrites therein by sono-molecular-conversion.

Method for removal of ammonia and related contaminants from water

A method for reducing ammonia concentration in an aqueous medium caused by the presence of fish gill/urine discharge, fish faeces and uneaten organic fish-feed particulate matter in recirculating aquaculture tanks. Fish in fish tank water are remotely located or partially isolated from the fish tank water utilized by the sono-molecular-conversion apparatus. Transient cavitation-created, collapsing microsized bubbles generated in the fishless portion of the fish tank water completes ammonia nitrification, mineralization and denitrification therein.

Method and device for removal of ammonia and other contaminants from recirculating aquaculture tanks

A fish killing and fish tissue sanitizing apparatus includes a tank, a water feed pipe extending to the tank, and an electromechanical transducer in pressure-wave transmitting relationship to the tank for generating ultrasonic pressure waves in water contained in the tank. An electrical signal generator is operatively connected to the transducer for energizing same with an alternating electrical signal. A sensor is in operative contact with water contained in the tank for detecting transient and inertial cavitation occurring within the water in the tank.

Method for subaqueous ultrasonic catastrophic irradiation of living tissue

Applicable to humans, animals and fish, a method for injecting thoroughly diffused ambient air or disinfectant into water prior to its delivery into a therapy tank plus an underwater PZT probe transmission of separate stable and transient cavitation signals from which a microcomputer determines, 1) the average number of transducer generated sinoidal equal amplitude alternating compression and rarefaction ultrasonic acoustic pressure waves cycles necessary to create inertial and/or transient cavitation and the required number of rectified sinoidal equal amplitude ultrasonic compression acoustic pressure waves necessary to suppress the inertial/transient cavitation and thereby maintain stable cavitation for cleaning and open-wound therapy treatment for 15-minutes, (or greater) time periods and 2) the necessary dilution of water and disinfectant and its activation by dual-mode transient cavitation to kill the pathogens shed by the 'patient' following 'patient' cleaning or wound-therapy treatment.

A storage system particularly for storing biological materials such as blood, stem cells, and DNA includes a storage unit having at least three vertical sides, at least two of the three vertical sides each being provided with a plurality of individually accessible storage receptacles. A plurality of boxes or cassettes are removably disposed in respective ones of the storage receptacles. At least one robot mechanism is movable along a track section or path extending to the two vertical sides of the unit, the robot mechanism having a robotic arm for accessing the storage receptacles. A computer is operatively connected to the robot mechanism for controlling movement and access operations thereof and for registering the contents of the storage receptacles. Where the storage unit is disposed in a room, additional storage receptacles may be disposed in a rectangular array inside a wall of the room. The boxes or cassettes contain a multiplicity of vials at least some of which may be segmented, with a plurality of separable compartments.

Storage system, particularly with automatic insertion and retrieval

A method for preserving the temperature integrity of cryogenically preserved biological samples is presented, involving initiating a countdown sequence upon removal of a sample from a controlled portable or bulk storage environment, requiring operator action to terminate the countdown on restoration of the sample to a controlled environment. Audible and visual warnings are provided to an operator prior to attainment of a critical temperature, beyond which damage may accrue to the sample. A portable device facilitating execution of the method is described.

Method and device for maintaining temperature integrity of cryogenically preserved biological samples

A storage unit includes a housing with a storage chamber, a carrier disposed inside the chamber for supporting a plurality of specimens in a predetermined array, and an access port on the housing for enabling access to the chamber for insertion and retrieval of specimens from the carrier. The access port includes an opening in the housing and a plug member removably located in the opening. The carrier is provided with a seat for receiving the plug member during an access operation, so that the plug member is located in the chamber during the access operation. A drive is operatively connected to the carrier for moving the carrier in the chamber to juxtapose different specimens to the access port. An insertion and removal mechanism is coupled to the housing for alternately inserting and removing specimens from the chamber via the access port during the access operation.

Storage apparatus particularly with automatic insertion and retrieval

A side entry tub includes a stationary section and a movable section with a mechanism of pivoting the movable section away from the stationary section to form an opening for entry and back to the stationary section to form an enclosure for bathing. During pivoting, the movable portion is separated from the stationary section to avoid damage and excessive wear on sealing gaskets.

A method of degassing utilizing a degassing faucet having a first portion which includes a liquid inlet with a first cross-sectional area and a liquid outlet with a second cross-sectional area smaller than the first cross-sectional area, the liquid outlet being disposed adjacent a conduit portion having a cross-sectional area larger than the second cross-sectional area and the degassing faucet having a second portion with an impact surface. The method includes the steps of (1) causing a liquid to flow from the liquid inlet to the liquid outlet with a velocity which increases as the liquid flows from the liquid inlet to the liquid outlet; (2) causing the liquid to pass from the liquid outlet to the conduit portion to create a pressure decrease in the liquid with respect to the atmosphere; (3) impacting the liquid against the impact surface while the pressure decrease is present in the liquid to cause the liquid to be degassed; and (4) accumulating the degassed liquid in a tub positioned underneath the degassing faucet and being sized to facilitate the ultrasonic treatment of a human patient.

Ultrasonic treatment process

To provide ultrasonic cleaning of inanimate objects, ultrasonic waves in a frequency range of between 15 kilohertz and 10 megahertz are applied to water in a tank with a power density between 15 and 7,000 watts per square centimeter. Asymmetric power waves are applied to avoid instability leading to transient cavitation. To provide ultrasonic treatment of animals, ultrasonic waves in a frequency range of between 15 kilohertz and 500 kilohertz are applied to water in a tub with a power density between 0.1 and 5 watts per square centimeter. The equipment is able to apply ultrasonic waves with at least two power densities in the vicinity of the portion of the animal with one of said power densities being more than 15 watts per square meter for sterilizing the water before the patient enters the tub and the other being less than 15 watts per square meter.

To provide ultrasonic treatment of animals, ultrasonic waves in a frequency range of between 15 kilohertz and 100 kilohertz are applied to water in a tube with a power density between 0.1 and 5 watts per square centimeter. The equipment is able to apply ultrasonic waves with at least two power densities in the vicinity of the portion of the animal with one of said power densities being more than 15 watts per square meter for sterilizing the water before the patient enters the tube and the other being less than 15 watts per square meter.
