A method of and apparatus for uncuffing a bag in a case, forming the top of the bag into a neck, and taping the neck, operable on non-square rectangular cases as well as square cases of different sizes.

Apparatus for closing bags

Bag filling and closing apparatus that includes a bag pick up and feed assembly mounted on a frame for removing the top closed bag from a vertical stack of bags on a magazine and feeding the bag into a bag positioner assembly to thereby straighten the bag and support it in a vertical condition at a desired position, a carriage assembly for clampingly engaging a bag supported by the positioner assembly and moving the bag to be vertically adjacent a saddle and shaker assembly, and beneath a scale hopper, opening the clamped bag, discharging product from the scale hopper through the carriage spout into the opened bag, the saddle and hopper assembly supporting the bag bottom and shaking the bag as it is being filled, a transfer assembly for grippingly supporting the filled bag while it is still clampingly engaged by the carriage assembly, and after the bag is released by the carriage assembly, move the filled bag to a conveyor assembly, and controls for controlling the operation of said assemblies.

Bag filling and closing apparatus

Case erector and bottom sealer apparatus having a pick up assembly for grippingly engaging a flat folded case blank on the top of a plurality of case blanks in vertical stacked relationship and elevating and moving the picked up blank forwardly, an infeed conveyor assembly for receiving the picked up case blank in its forward position and moving it to an erector station, an erector assembly at the erector station for grippingly engaging opposite sides of the blank and opening the case blank, folder assemblies movable between retracted and folded positions for first folding the bottom minor flaps of the erected blank and then partially folding the bottom major flaps to retain the bottom minor flaps in a folded condition, a walking stick assembly for moving the erected case from the erector station to a compression station, a glue gun assembly for applying adhesive to the bottom minor flaps as the erected case is moved to the compression station, a compression assembly at the compression station to complete the folding of the bottom major flaps and compress the folded bottom major and minor flaps to complete the formation of the sealed case bottom closure, and controls for controlling the operation of the above mentioned assemblies.

Case erector and bottom sealer apparatus

A case opener and bottom sealer machine that includes a frame, a conveyor assembly on the frame for stacks of flat folded case blanks, a lift assembly on the frame that includes suction cups for grippingly engaging the uppermost blank of the adjacent stack and elevating the gripped blank, longitudinally elongated rails on the frame for supporting a blank in an erect condition as it is moved therealong, a case erect assembly mounted on the frame for opening the gripped blank to an erect condition and after the erect blank is released by the cups move the erect blank along the rails, folder mechanism for folding the minor flaps at one end of the erect blank and thence partially fold the major flaps of the erect blank, a glue device for applying glue to the folded minor flaps, a compression assembly for completing the folding of the major flaps and holding the folded flaps under compression to provide a good seal, and controls for automatically operating the conveyor, erect, and compression assemblies and the glue device.
