A circuit for protection of communication lines, including tip and ring lines, each having a protected side and an unprotected side; first and second overcurrent devices connected in series with the unprotected side of the tip and ring lines line; a grounded over-voltage clamping device connected to both the tip line and the ring line at a point intermediate the protected side and the unprotected side, the clamping device being connected to ground; and first and polymer PTC elements connected, respectively, in series with the protected side of the tip and ring lines.

Circuit design for data/telephone tip/ring pair surge protection

A surge suppression system for use in a telephone and data communications terminal block. The surge suppression system includes a modular housing having surge suppression circuitry disposed therein, and a ground rail. The ground rail is mounted on the terminal block. The modular housing includes a plurality of contact blade pairs and associated surge suppression circuitry such that, when positioned on the terminal block, each pair of contact blades disposes surge suppression circuitry between an 'equipment side' terminal and a 'field side' terminal of the terminal block.

An apparatus and method for grounding an electronic module which is electrically interconnected with a terminal connecting block. The electronic module has a pin receiving port for electrically connecting a conductive pin thereto. A clip having a two-pronged clasp and a protruding conductive pin is attached to the electronic module with the protruding pin of the clip placed within the pin receiving port. A flat conductive strip is placed within the two-pronged clasp of the clip, wherein the clip electrically couples the electronic module with the conductive strap. The conductive strap is then electrically coupled to ground.
