A novel agricultural mulch is disclosed comprising a paper substrate having coated thereon on the top and bottom side film forming latexes resistant to water permeability. The superior paper mulch according to the invention is degradable but possesses most of the beneficial aspects of polyethylene-type mulches.

Mulching composite

A novel imaging process is disclosed comprising preparing microcapsules having an elongation of less than 1%, adhering the microcapsules to a substrate then imagewise rupturing certain of said microcapsules upon selective application of a thermal energy input comprising a .DELTA.T of at least 115.degree. C. per 1 millisecond. The process makes use of novel microcapsules polymerized at a temperature of from 65.degree. C. to 100.degree. C. which are heat resistant yet heat fracturable upon application of a thermal pulse.

Imaging process

A novel record material is disclosed comprising a substrate bearing microcapsules having nonmeltable walls. The microcapsules contain a chromogen or developer and a photosensitive composition internal thereof, said microcapsules undergoing a change in viscosity upon exposure to actinic radiation. The walls of the microcapsules have an elongation of not more than 1%, and the record material is resistant to heat, measured by not producing any substantial color when placed in a 150.degree. C. oven for one minute. Surprisingly, the record material however is capable of forming a color upon application to the record material of a point source energy input comprising a .DELTA.T of at least 115.degree. C. per one millisecond.

Desensitizable record material

The invention relates to novel substituted 4,7-diazaphthalides of the general formula ##STR1## wherein X and Y each independently of the other, are optionally substituted aminophenyl, indolyl, benzoindolyl, jujolidinyl or kairolyl radicals; and

A color developer material comprising a homogeneous mixture of a color developer containing a certain weight percent phenolic group, divalent zinc, and an aromatic carboxylate component possessing certain properties. These mixtures are particularly useful as color developer materials for basic chromogenic materials in either pressure-sensitive or heat-sensitive record materials.

Disclosed is a pressure-sensitive record unit which comprises a top sheet having coated on the underside thereof solid color former material and a bottom sheet having coated on the upper side thereof a coating comprising solid color developer material and microcapsules containing a liquid solvent for the color former. Such a record unit makes possible the unexpectedly efficient utilization of the color former material. It furthermore permits the printing application of some of the components, resulting in even more efficient utilization of color former material and elimination of undesirable side effects of printed record units taught in the prior art.

A multilayer printed circuit board structure and a method for generating artwork masters for the manufacture thereof. The multilayer board comprises universal internal layers of predefined circuit patterns. The internal layers include power and ground planes, and for boards having high component and circuit density, one or two signal crossover layers with short, equal-length runs oriented transversely to the runs of an adjacent outermost signal layer. Electrical interconnections between layers of the circuit board are effected by interlayer conductors such as pins or plated-through holes at predefined locations. The artwork masters for the outermost layers are generated utilizing two degrees of layout precision. A universal layout master having interconnection pads and parallel circuit runs extending across the entire surface of the board is first prepared using a high degree of precision. The universal layout master is then superposed with other layout masters including a component matrix and utilized to generate a composite artwork master having relatively short circuit runs of a second degree of precision interconnecting the parallel runs and the pads. A tool for a unique outermost layer is then reproduced from the composite artwork master utilizing an artwork master of another layer to control interlayer registration.
