A protocol adapter for in-vehicle networks that provides diagnostics, analysis and monitoring. The protocol adapter has a pass-through feature (voltage translator)/smart mode that allows the protocol adapter to emulate older boxes. Visual indicators (LEDs) indicate the pass through feature is in operation. LEDs also indicate activity on the RS232 bus between the adapter and a PC. Single color and multiple color emitting LEDs indicate a program is being executed and identify the program that is being executed. The protocol adapter supports RP1202 and RP1210, J1708 and J1939 and J1939 Transport Layer. The protocol adapter has a Real Time Clock, Standard COMM port connection, 7-32 Volt Supply and is CE compliant. The adapter can be used wirelessly.

Expanded protocol adapter for in-vehicle networks

A protocol adapter for transferring diagnostic messages between networks within a vehicle and a host computer. The protocol adapter operates as a voltage translator to support J1708 software. The protocol adapter also recognizes when the protocol adapter is connected to a host computer running the J1939 and/or J1708 protocols and automatically switches to that protocol.

ASCII gateway to in-vehicle system provides bi-directional translation between multiplexed motor vehicle networks and industrial control and monitoring devices. Integrated hardware and software components provide data communications between motor vehicle electronic control module networks and RS-232 serial ASCII-text capable device, for industrial control and/or industrial automation application in manufacturing or assembly operations. Communications networks (CAN, SAE or ISO protocols) implemented inside motor vehicles pass data between electronic control modules that control operation of important vehicle components like engine, transmission and brake systems, have their messages converted to RS-232 serial ASCII-text; and from RS-232 serial ASCII-text converted to motor vehicle communications network by the system. Messages to monitor and/or control vehicle networks are generated by a serial ASCII-test capable device. Multiple vehicle protocols are supported by the system. The system translates between RS-232 serial ASCII-text message generated or received by a device and the vehicle network.

A protocol selection matrix adapter that interfaces a host computer to multiple in-vehicle networks. The protocol selection matrix adapter is microprocessor controlled and provides a physical interface to the in-vehicle networks. Further, the control of the protocol selection matrix adapter automatically selects the in-vehicle networks, and the initiation of communications on the detected networks. The protocol selection matrix adapter also is able to reprogram an electronic control unit (ECU) that makes up the in-vehicle network.

An apparatus for in-vehicle electronic control module (ECM) development in which network protocol control parameters are varied. The apparatus includes an adapter, which consists of a microprocessor subassembly and an interface subassembly, and computer based (client) software with two parts: the host communication level and the API (DLL). The apparatus provides a &ldquo;pass-through&rdquo; interface such that various compliant applications from various developers can use a common adapter. The apparatus provides a &ldquo;pass-through&rdquo; interface such that all compliant adapters from various developers can use any of the unique developer applications. This makes all compliant software applications and hardware interface adapters interchangeable. Apparatus for the ultrasonic cleaning and sterilization of soft contact lenses and fenestrated hard contact lenses at a temperature that is low relative to that of pasturization is disclosed. A transducer element is electrically connected to a source of oscillating current to produce mechanical oscillating motion. A capsule is provided which is adapted to contain a biologically inert solution in which the soft contact lenses are immersed and the capsule is then hermetically sealed but not pressurized. Apparatus is provided for demountably connecting the capsule to the transducer element so that a continuous spanwise mechanical coupling is provided from the transducer to this surface of the capsule. A tuner element may be interposed in the connecting apparatus. The lower surface of the capsule is vibrated at a preselected ultrasonic frequency to induce ultrasonic waves in the solution in the capsule and to heat the solution in a controlled manner to clean and sterilize the soft contact lenses therein. The solution in the capsule is sterilized as well, giving rise to alternative uses of the instant invention.
